97 to 99 ford conversion

I have recently purchased a 97 F-150 to replace my 99. The 97 is truely a "work truck" (power nothing) What I am wondering is if it is possible to install the doors off of my 99, (they have power windows and locks) the wiring harness for the doors, and to also install the cruise and sterring wheel with cruise buttons into this 97. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Again

Thats what I was figuring, I was just goinig to run the stock harness, and I believe that Ford probably has a plugin for it in the dash, and i imagine the cruise unit should mount right in too.

I have a 98 "work truck" that I"m adding power windows, doors, anti theft into it as well. Mine has cruise so I'm not sure how that would go if there are exisiting wires there or not - but the power doors and windows do not have any wiring in place and the wire harness that you'll take out of your 99 goes from one door - all the way accross behind the dash into the other door (one piece). It is a separate wire harness than the dash wiring harness and plugs into the dash harness in three locations - the extra wires that are needed from the dash harness do not exist beyond the fuse block so you will have to replace either the entire dash harness as well, or remove the individual wires from your exisiting dash harness (or donor truck) - unhook them from the connectors and snap them into the connectors in your dash harness and do your own splices at the factory locations for the horn, lights, ignition anti theft switch, power for windows and locks etc. It seems like a big task but I've been doing my homework with the factory service manual and it won't be so bad. I have found where every new wire must hook up and I have the "pins" to integrate my new wires into existing connectors in my wire harness for a factory job. To me this will be easier than replacing the entire dash harness. The benifits of doing an OEM power upgrade is you'll have parts available for years to come, and should something go wrong with the system it can be easily diagnosed. Unless you're planning on replacing the entire dash harness (which is massive) you'll need a ford factory service manual which will show diagrams of every connector, wire circuit etc. I'm taking my time collecting the parts I need (window regulators, lock actuators etc) so I'm not ready to dive in yet but I have the door wire harness, and pieces of the dash harness to splice in whats left and am confident I can have everything hooked up properly. Sorry if it was a little wordy or hard to understand - when I tackle this I'll try to post pictures and a write up on the process. Right now my biggest obstacle is finding tan interior door panels, no tan ones at the local salvage and ford wants over 400 bucks for new ones! the lock actuators and door panels were different from 97-98 and 99-03 as well so that might be a consideration in your project. Anyhow good luck on the project!

FYI - the status on my project is that I installed the ignition cylinder anti theft swich - ready to plug into the alarm when thats put in, traced all the cicuits so I know where to splice all my wires, and I have the following parts:

1. Door wiring harness (lock relays included in this)
2. Wireless RAP module (controls keyless entry and alarm)
3. New RPO relay block (houses starter interrupt relay for alarm)
4. Passenger side lock actuator
5. Left and right door switch panels for windows and locks
6. Ignition cylinder anti theft switch
7. extra ford relays for accessory delay and one touch down feature for window
8. both door lock cylinder switches for alarm disarm/arm

Now I still need: (tracking these down as time and budget permit)

1. Left and right interior door panels - anyone know of some tan 97-98 door panels?
2. left and right power window regulator
3. drivers side lock actuator
4. keyless remote
5. Power mirrors

I started a new gallery with a couple pictures of some connectors and a diagram of the dash harness. One picture I wrote in the circuits of the missing wires and where they will splice into for one of the three connectors the door harness uses to connect to the dash harness. I will post pictures and diagrams of the other two connectors soon. looking at these pics will at least give you a hint of what you're in for getting a standard truck wired for power options - either splice missing wires into proper circuits and connectors - or replace the entire dash harness as well.

OK, thats really what I was looking for on information, I think I am going to swap the whole dash as the new door panels are blue and I figure I have plenty of time on my hands, so I'll swap it all over (including the doors themselves). Thanks Again for the information, I will def. be able to do all of this.
