Power door lock fuse

Power door lock fuse
The power door locks have stopped working on my 97' Aerostar. I believe the problem is the fuse, however I can not locate it. I have been to a Ford dealer and they gave me a diagram for a 95' but it is not in the same place as my 97'. I have looked all up under the area by the fuse panel and inside the hood. Does anyone know where I have been missing it?

pjohn1959,
My 92 owner's manual indicates that the power door locks receive power through an in-line 30 amp circuit breaker located above the fuse block - left cowl side. Hope this helps.
The wiring diagrams in my Chilton's manual for 86-97 Aerostars are worse than useless and don't even show the power door locks.
LOL

The Haynes manual had a diagram but doesn't say where the Fuse Link is. The power is "Hot at all times" from the Starter Relay. The wire from the Fuse Link is BK/W and goes to four locations.
1 Lock Relay
2 Unlock Relay
3 Driver's door lock/unlock control
4 Passinger's door lock/unlock control
You can go to any of those and measure for 12 VDC to verify the fuse is good. I don't know where the lock and unlock relay is located.
I would pull the panel from the dirver's door and measure there first.

My owners manual stated the same about the inline 30 amp fuse "above the fuse panel". Just what that means is anyones best guess. I have spent about 2 hours meticulously looking at all
the wires in that area trying to find some kind of fuse or breaker and have come up with nothing. I am beginning to think that it must be in a secrect hiding place and that FORD won't give it up unless I spend time in their service department. Ü

pjohn1959,
The simplest thing now would be as Tom suggests and check for power at the driver's side switch. You could then trace the wiring from the switch back into the van to try to locate the relay and/or circuit breaker. Of course, if you have power to the switch, then the circuit breaker is OK.
Then check power out from the switch to the relay. If you have this, then the switch is OK. Then check the relay.
BTW, are both the driver's side and the passenger side door lock switches inoperative?

Viewing from the driver's seat, the 30-amp fuse is tucked in behind the dash panel; just above the lower lip and slightly to the right of the hood latch. It may be well hidden -- while my head was resting on the brake pedal I had to pull on the wires until I saw it.
In my case, the fuse was fine but some wires were snagged and cut by the power-window gear near the bottom front of the driver's door.
