well my 96 is still dows, havnt had the time to fix it yet, so I just bought a 97 reg. cab 4x4 psd. its a nice truck with 85000 on it. got looking at the edge evolution and the superchips tuner. a couple of questions. are these safe to run, and which one is recommended? also are there any better ones that i am not aware of?
You 'll get a lot of opinions about this so hears mine. Most tuners are mediocre at best. Some of them cause troubles ie. Very high EGT's ect, without the performance gain that should come with it. For about the same money you can get a chip instead. A muti-positions chip is the way to go. You 'll get the best of a all worlds.
The one thing I really hate about tuners is that you have to reprogram it for each setting. I change settings almost daily with my flip chip. Usually I run it on stock til the engine warms up then put it in another setting, and turn it all the way up if need be
I can compare the edge to DP tuner because I have had both. I got more boost (~2psi, 24-26 on stock injectors) and less smoke with the DP as well as cooler egts while towing.
i would have guessed that the programmers would be the way to go, I like that they display the "hidden" numbers that should be displayed right there on the dash. thanks for your opinions and keep em coming, I want to do the best thing for me and my trucks

Foreman: I thought I understood what "Chips" were but you now have me confused as a sterile Rabbit.
Please explain how a "flip chip" works & how it gets flipped so easyly.
Is this a unit that is attached to your dash, etc?
Help an old man out, Please.
Dp-tuner, tony wildman and TS chips along with a few other have multi position chips that have a switch that mounts to the dash to change the programs. Some are toggles, some dials and DP's F5 chips have a 16 position capable digital read out push button unit.
ive had my wildman chip for almost 10k miles and im very happy so far. on a plus side, if you ever need to have the chip reburned for bigger injectors, turbo, n2o, etc., tony will do it for free, not sure about the other companies.
I have looked at jody and tony's sites,dp chargesfor each program plus the switch like tony does.On dp if I add it up 5 programs(3-$45,1-25,1-freestock)plus the switch =205 for 5choice chip.Tony's 5 choice chip $475.What am I missing? I have a hard time believeing there is that much difference in price, considering tony "learned from jody".Maybe someone can set me straight.
