I have an 01 V10 F250 CC short bed 2x4 with 110,000 on it. It has had zero drivetrain problems so far. Mine, I believe, it is a 20 valve where as the new ones are 30. New ones are supposed to be alot more powerful. Also the engine is very quiet when driving, plenty of power if your not towing big loads. If you towed the same trailer with the toyota you'll have no problems with this one. I get about 13 mile per gallon mixed driving no trailer. Great truck. I would also love the diesel but the extra price is tough to swallow

The 3v 5.4 has variable valve timing. The 3v V10 does not. The VVT is noisy on the 5.4 3v, and has had it's fair share of issues with cam phasers.

My '08 is the most quiet motor I've ever had. Due in part to new exhaust for '08.

My truck gets nearly the same fuel mileage as my '06 F150 (5.4, crew cab, 6.5' bed 4x4) did, rides better (except on the roughest roads) and tows so much better.

The F-250 is all I want right now. If you look at Ford's Super Duty brochure, there really isn't that much of a difference for my needs. So I chose to save the cash. This 350 I have now is the FX4. It has white and red shocks on that are marked as Ranchos. But they are nothing more than stock Ford shocks. They have Motorcraft stamped into them. My 05 Ford 350 dump truck had a better ride than this 07 350. Another reason I chose the 250.
Best, CB

Can't beat the low option price, ease and low cost of maintance, worry free drive train, proven history, great HP & TQ. And yes it is nice and quite.
Now if you want to save some money on the purchase of your new truck, purchase some shares of Ford stock. Then call investor relations, tell them you are a share holder and would like an X-Plan to make a new vehicle purchase. You will be able to purchase behind invoice plus recieve any and all rebates. Some times there are rebates not offered to the public, only to Ford X, D, A plan purchased. Currently Ford stock is under $9 per share. Who knows you may not only save some money on the purchase of the new vehicle but make a little money in the market also.
interesting, how many shares do you need to own?

There are a few more ways to qualify for an "X" plan pin (I don't know them all I am just aware there are many ways)

Here is one I know--- is to be a Disabled American Vetrans (DAV) member. Not well advertized but they have a web site that members can apply for and receive an Ford "X" plan pin

You can qualify for several other Ford partner programs (most require 90 days to a year membership to qualify)

Active duty soldiers get a one time deduction as do most college students
Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) Members
American Quarter Horse Association (AQHA) Members

Most of the partner programs can get you a $250, $500 or $750 discount
You can only every use ONE discount for your purchase and you MUST tell the dealer before the contract that you have this membership. The dealer will enter your membership into the computer and verify your eligibility

Regarding regen pulling a 20,000lb load daily

"Actually i noticed quit a few and it pisses me off. It almost seems like when it does it and your pulling it dosent create as nearly the same amount of boost. Honestly i'm getting sick of this truck."

A separate post dealing with the dpf

"Had a long talk with the service tech today...I finally got the truck back and guess what? NEW DPF!!!! I had told them the advice Rob NC had given me last time it went in for black smoke. this was the third visit for the black smoke and they finally put in a new filter. Grand Total $1870.00 courtesy of Ford Motor Co.. He told me that they wanted the tech to keep trying different things before they put the money into a new filter. He also told me that Ford is demanding back every DPF that is getting replaced. So, got it back today, havn't had time to drive around much yet."

I am going to order one with the v10. i don't have time for this.

thx for all the advice

In about 5 years all this new Diesel emissions stuff should be straightened out.

I've been reading similar stuff in the 6.4l section as well. Ford is not the only company having problems with the new emission systems, Chevy and Dodge have problems too.

You will like your V10......its as reliable as they come.

just to add to this...
my dad has an 03 F350 V10 and last winter he was sick and wasent able to drive his truck for almost the whole month of january ( live in mass so always below freezing) and when he finally did start it it started right up,(had 60k miles) and of course he let it warm up for like 10 minutes, but it surprised me how easilly it started (wasent plugged in at all either)...
on the other hand my moms 05 6.0 is a pain in the ***! even if its 50 degrees out it has a hard time starting and is even louder... i hope the 6.4's arnt like that...

but once the V10s warmed up, sitting in traffic you dont even hear it running, and every time I drive it im always careful when taking off to makesure TO NOT SPIN THE TIRES lol, cuz " i need them to last 75k miles" HAHAH

With the exception of long haul very heavy at high altitude---- there is nothing the PSD trucks can do that the 3v V10 with ZF 6 or 5R110w TorqShift and 4.10 to 4.30 can't do.....
This post matches my views so well I will just quote it.

I don't know that there is minimum number of shares you must own. I feel sure that 100 shares would be more than enough. Plus it is usually less expensive to purchase stock in 100 quanity (not per share price but brokerage fees). Some of the on-line brokerages may be the way to go if you don't already have a broker.
Or if you can find someone that works for Ford Motor (not a dealership), Ford employees can give out X-Plans to anyone they wish. There are a few websites where you can contact an employee and request an X-Plan. With a little luck you may get an X-Plan PIN just that easy. Try looking under the Order Information section in the forums of various Ford truck sites.

MPG. I have been commuting 20 miles one way in Phoenix with the '02 f250 4x4 bone stock since August. It has the 6-speed manual. Starting off in 2nd then shifting to 4th then 6th the rig can get 13-15 mpg in moderate-heavy traffic. I have never been around a 6.4 but I don't think that one of them is going to do any better. Especially since diesel is in the $3.10 range and gas about $2.60 right now. That makes my fuel bill about 18.6 cents/mile @14mpg. A diesel would have to get about 17 mpg PLUS a higher monthly payment to get into one. SIDENOTE: The 6.4 is a new motor and is bound to have all the problems plus some as the 6.0 did when it was introduced. Do you really want to be a test dummy for Ford MoCo? It seems that the newer diesels have power out the kazoo but with everything its as much how you drive it as what's under the hood.

I was wondering why the 5.4 was so noisy as compared to the V10. JKBrad's comments explains it very well.

I drive a 2006 E350 van with the 5.4 that is used for work. It has good power, but it is noisy, particularly when accelerating. I test drove a V10 a while back and I was amazed at how quiet it is. I couldn't hear the engine until I really romped on it and got the RPM's way up.

NICE POST. I AM DOWN TO PICKING COLOR! I LIKE THE LOOKS OF YOUR LARIAT. ANY REASON YOU DID NOT GO TO THE KING RANCH OTHER THAN PRICE? THE LARIAT GETS PRETTY CLOSE AND HAS MORE COLOR OPTIONS.
