every now and then for the last 4-5 days my truck kind of misses randomly, but only once or twice but not and not close together. And its only done it maybe 5 times now. Any idea what this could be?
I was thinkin maybe it could be the cps but not sure.
I'm posting the obvious "it's something electrical", CPS, UVC, etc... just so I can follow this thread. I assume you followed the dead on the road thread where the UVC cable rubbed through the insulation and shorted out? If not check here https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/637086-help-ford-on-road-dead-12.html#post5024678 and look towards the end to find the problem and fix.
Ford just redesigned the CPS and lowered the price (big time).. Most of Ford dealers sell them now for under $30.. or.. get one from http://fordparts.com/cart/?pn=F7TZ-1...&submit=Search
Be sure to get the P/N listed in the link above..
k now where is the cps located? Im gonna buy a spare and keep it handy in case this gets worse.
In the front of the motor on lower portion were the cam is, you can see it if you look up from under the truck. It is hard to reach kinda tight fit between radiator, fan and motor.

If you crawl under the engine and look up on front portion of the engine (passenger side) just behind and above your main crankshaft pulley, you will see a sensor and also has a metal bracket coming out that goes over the pulley, like a timely bracket.
Here is good link for mod and maintenance you should bookmark.. http://www.7point3.com/mods.aspx
Disregard the p/n for the cps in this link.. it has been upgraded..
after pulling the bolt out..I laid a wrench in there against the block then pried the sensor out using a screw driver and the wrench as a pivot point..

My truck is currently stranded on the side of the road 50 miles away. I got a block away from work this evening when the engine just cut. I hooked up my superchips tuner and pulled diag codes, and sure enough, CPS. (P0340 I think..)
Is the new CPS in the link above compatible with all of the engines? There were 2 CPS's before, one for older engines below a certain serial number, and everyone above. My truck is an '03, so I'm assuming that it uses the newer of the two in the old case.
That's amazing the CPS is under $30 now. My brother paid something like $250 for the one in his '01 a few years ago. When did this redesigned CPS come out?
The new CPS part # ending in B has been out for several months now. It will work fine in your 2003. A pry bar, or screwdriver with a wrench will remove it. You just need a pivot point to get it pried out.
And just for clarification. The found on road dead post (me) was chaffed wires on the main engine wiring harness not the UVCH (under valve cover harness) connectors that can also be an issue.
