What would you want a 31"x12" wide tire for?

A 255/65R18 would be the same hight, just 10" wide.

Some stock tires are 275/65R18s, and they are 32x11s.

What size tire are you actually looking for?

Saw somebodys truck the other day, the tires they had on were 305/55/20
Toyo tires. Had a nice stance, set the truck off nice.
But since I have 18 inch rims thought i would stick with the same size rims since I will be changing them out in the winter months to the stock wheels/tires. Afraid to that going to the 20inch wheel will reduce to much of my towing capacity.

a 305x65x18 is close. it's 0.4" or so bigger around in diameter than a 305x65x20...and it's a tad bit shorter overall.

Tire Size Comparison Chart

check out the link above. you put in the reference tire size, then start messing around and it'll tell you the size difference. it's a very useful site.

This guy had 305/55/20 on his truck. Looked SWEET.

I want to get a 2inch leveling kit, new skins, new wheels.
I would like to stick to a 18 inch rim, but get the same look with the 305/55/20.
I plan in the winter months putting my stock tires/wheels back on, ive got the 18 inch wheels, (thus sticking with the 18 wheels).

Im lost when it comes to tire sizes and fitment, what works and doesnt?
Seems like I read somewhere that some tires you can plus size them and it wont affect the Speedo/rotation much, so its close to stock.

Tylus...your tire example "a 305x65x18 is close"
When looking at the tire compairson it says for that tire....
"Rim Width Range:....Unrecognized tire size"

Just go with a 305/60R18...Dick Cepek and Mickey Thompson make them. BFG makes a 65 series in a 305 but I would imagine the 60 series is closer to the 55 series you liked.

Ok its time for the idiot question of the night......

Is the overall height of the tire the first number (ie 275)?

No need you try and understand the meanings of metric tire sizes.

You have to divide the first number by the second number to get the height after you multiply it by 2.5. The second number isn't the wide, it's the aspect ratio. What's the aspect ratio? Don't worry about it, it's basically the width, but the rim size affects it, so it's weird.

I remember a 265 is a little bigger than a 31
285 is just shy of a 33
305 is 34
315 is 35
If you go the other way:
235 is 29
225 is 28
basically, but if you start chaging the second # and the rim size, it changes the height.
