turbo surge

I have an early 99, with turbo surge. What can I do to resolve this? All the fixes I see are for 99.5s. Does any body know the difference between the 99 and the 99.5 turbos?

Typically, they get what is called the Wicked Wheel, which is the one you already have in your early 99.

Since you already have the same turbo wheel think you could go with a bigger ATS housing.

Maybe, I don't know there seems to be a lack of resources for the early 99.

You just need a larger exhaust turbine to keep it from surging. Check out our 1.0 housing kits, it should take care of your surge and accually do some other things liek lower egts and have better mid-range and upper end power.

So, is the wicked wheel that my stock turbo has similar to your anti surge wheel? How difficult is installation of the housing?

Yes you should have that wheel already.

To change the housing you will need to pull the turbo off and there is 4 bolts that hold it to the center section. Not bad unless they are siezed up.

If you really want to make sure you have no surge get a 1:15 housing and it will be gone.

Doesn't surge happen only at high boost levels of over 25lbs or so? If so, then wouldn't adjusting the waste gate help this?

I have a stock early 99 also and have considered diconnecting the WG but since I am not yet chipped I never get over 20 lbs anyway and I think I've heard that the WG doesn't engage until around 22 lbs. So disconnecting it now would not allow me any higher boost. Does this make sense?
