Hi Ax, seeing as you own a Solstice I was wondering if the side mirrors could be adapted to fit a 56 f100. I seen one in passing and thought ,well maybe.
John
I've been trying to find something that I could adapt and from a picture I have of a Solstice it looks like it would be one of the easier ones, the picture I have makes it look as though the stem is in two pieces if this is true maybe forming an elbow so it could bolt to the 56 's door?
No, the mirror is the typical molded construction used on most late model vehicles with a molded base that bolts to the door panel with the upper portion and mirror on a typical "breakaway pivot". What makes me think it might be a possible candidate is that it does bolt to the door skin below the window rather than to the corner of the window frame like many today. The countour of the mount may be close to the contour of the 56 door skin below the window frame. I would need to make a template of the door skin contour to see if it has possibilities. It is a good looking mirror.
Here's a pic that shows the mirror fairly well:
Chuck, why the camera behind your wifes head? Review of technique, corner entry/exit, etc...?
Exactly. We tape every run so we can review, compare and critique them. We also have a sophisticated onboard data aquisition system that records 4 axis accelleration and gps positioning that we can graphically compare with the tape. It's enlightening to be able to "see" exactly what you did rather than what you "think" you did in the heat of competition. We can break each run down into as many segments as we'd like and graphically compare them based on whatever parameter we'd like. We can also overlay the data from as many runs on the same course we chose and graphically play them back on a course map in real or 25% speed like a video game, to see exactly where one run was quicker than another.
There is very little we can change on the car in stock class, so driving is 90% of the difference between winning and losing. when 0.001 sec counts the slightest mistake is major time lost. On our courses, a full sec difference in time is just a difference of 30', less than 2 car lengths, at the finish.
For a familiar reference the blink of an eye takes an average 0.03 sec.!!!
