Speedometer jumpy

My 92 Explorer had somewhat of a jumpy speedometer. It wasn't bad enough to make me want to pull the cluster out and lubricate the cable. Anyway, I changed out my transfer case fluid last night and it since then the speedo has been nice and steady. Just thought I'd throw it out there.

when my 92 Splorer done that I replaced the lil gear in the trans where the cable goes in. Was something like $2.98? Real easy to change

so all you need to do is change the fluid i the tranfure case an replaced the speed gear. what would lube the cable with? I have one that will bounce from 60 to 85 an is real nosey.
