I have to write a concept paper for COMP110 and after brainstorming, I have came up with biodiesel. It stemmed off of the idea of alternative fuels since I was thinking about doing something off of my truck. It is an interesting subject which helps me write a better paper. I was hoping to get some insight from you guys and possibly some links to some good information. I probably should post this in the biodiesel section but I'm posting it here.
Nic, there was a recent thread regarding a comparison of bioD with other fuel additives in terms of how they each affect fuel lubricity. A 2-3% BD blend has remarkably higher reductions in "scarring" from the ball bearing test. Here's the thread link... https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/6...study-2-a.html
Also, here are some topics or perspectives you might want to do some more reading on....
1) bioD as an alternative to dionD (home-grown fuel)
2) growing market for investment
3) diesel use in US compared to Europe (capitalizing on teh fact that the European efforts at efficiency tend to find their way over here in the end)
4) simple energy efficiency comparisons between diesel and other fuels
5) comparison of bioD fuel characteristics in terms of raw oil source (canola, peanut, WVO, corn, etc.)
6) implications of where plants can be built and operated for bioD in comparison to the same issue for dino petroleum plants
7) how to "convert" a diesel to handle bioD
thanks for all of the ideas, everything is up in the air right now im just kind of brain storming what to write about biodiesel and that helped out alot!
Here are some links to more sites that have tons of information that might be useful as well. They cover "how to's", "why", "equipment/kit sources", "news articles", etc.
Great Idea, wish I was in school so I could say to some hippy - "Yeah, your Prius is great, but my 7000 pound truck will run on B100 and burn less fossil fuels in a year than your hybrid does in a day."
Here's one more site, for what it's worth. I try to buy from them whenever I'm in the area of a pump.
The looks I get from the local greenies is priceless..... they see the lifted diesel truck with the big exhaust and turbo whine and have their minds made up about the redneck behind the wheel and then, out of left field..... "Powered by Biodiesel" on the bumper. They never see it coming!
I'm not sure if any of the links posted previously mention this, but I started a thread on this topic in the Biodiesel forum here at FTE on this topic: Bio and EGT's.
Whether it sounds crazy or not, I have noticed an EGT drop of about 50 degrees across the board after I switched over to running B20 exclusively appx 4 months ago.
Other folks running bio have noticed the same thing.
Just thought it might be an interesting point to consider........
