Porting tools

I'm going to port out a set of D2TE-AA heads that are junk to find out where I hit water on my good heads. I just ported a set of toyota supra round port heads with a tool from ace hardware that looks like a pinion from a differential kind of. It worked well but that was aluminum. Also I ported them by eye but is there any special (not expensive) tools that any of you guys use to do your porting to get all the ports the same. When I get my junk head done I'll post pics to show how far they can go. I'm not taking my heads to extremes but I will find any thin spots so I don't get a suprise on the good ones. In a while when I get the edelbrocks I'm going to leave thos alone.

I used a power hack saw to cut up a cracked head many years ago. Got about 6 or 8 pieces around here somewhere. Was interesting to see just how thick the water jacket was.

Porting tools

I used a 7/16" drill bit to drill into selected spots of a C8AE-H head that was junk. I found that the intake and exhaust ports were connected via a casting in my C7AE-A and not in the C8AE-H which would make the C8's run cooler.

I think that porting is not a good a drilling. With drilling, I was able to take several measurments of wall thickness and was able to flash a penlight into the waterjackets etc...

As far as porting goes, the carbide tip works well, but I'd opt for a steel blade in a circular saw and cut several different spots across the different ports.

By the way, if you can post a few pics, most of us would like to see them.
