Post Cab steps or no cab steps???

I just bought a 2002 f150 screw today and the dealer in my area did not have a red one like I wanted. they did a dealer search and found me one the only thing is that it had the cab steps on it. I went ahead and got it but I was just wanting everyones opinion on looks and if they are really that useful. Give me your opinions on the pro and cons of these from past experiences. Are they hard to take off? I was thinking of just taking one side off and seeing if I like this better.
Thanks for your opinions!

Cab steps or no cab steps???

i drove a super crew 4 x 2 with running boards and thought they stuck out to far. for me i don't need them but for the shorter people i think it would be needed to get in and out with or if you have a 4 x 4 they set 3 inchs higher i needed them on it . i ended up ordering a after market board that sticks out about 3 inchs less for i order a 2wd truck and some need them others don't. i think i measure the ford boards and they stuck out 8 inchs and i have lund boards on a 550 that stick out only 5 and are comfortable to use they get used by everyone that gets in and out. my opinion is if its 2 wd get board that don't stick out so far so if you don't need them you can step past them 4wd it don't make a difference everyone will use them on that i don't understand why ford builds these trucks so far off the ground. maybe if you where a hard core off roader but i am not one to buy a brand new truck and beat it thur the brush. on the highway there is no way i can see how they could be as stable being that high also if your are looking at areo drag for mileage i don't think you could expect it to be as good. i ordered a 4 x 2 for them reasons good luck b. abbott

If you are considering buying aftermarket steps, consider using the chrome step bars. The look better than the steps, they dont stick out as far, and they are easy to install. I bought the Ford side steps from the dealer and installed them myself. Westin also makes a good looking step bar, in chrome and in flat black.

Keep the boards!!!! I added the Ford boards (got them through Ebay) and love them. My wife is short (5ft) and it makes access for her much easier. If you have leather seats, it will reduce the amount of butt scubbing on the bolsters. At least try them for a few months. I think you will like them.

My $.02

ditch the plastic lighted running boards, get the black nerf bars, they stick out just enough to serve their purpose and look much better than any other style. My wife drives the 4x4 king ranch and she is 5'3". No problems getting in and out.(just a little problem with letting me drive )
Great comment on the leather seats, I have noticed, especially with the saddle leather in her truck, that it scratches very easily and if you don't use the steps, then you are asking for much greater wear on the bolsters..
