I use Chassis Saver and have had very good luck with it. Works like POR15 but is not ultraviolet sensitive. Flows out great and dries rock hard overnight.

As well, if it is over coated the surface sheen and color are essentially irrelevant as an opaque top coat will be what determines final color and finish.
I have heard that it is less viscous, and thus easier to apply, than POR-15.

Sorry, not sorry. Dragging this thread up from the bottom of the oil pan.
I'm getting ready to paint my 16 foot long horse trailer inside and out (which will be pulled by my Ford so this kind of counts). I've used the Rust-Oleum clean metal white primer on my trailer and have started wet sanding.
I have many questions and would really appreciate it if someone would help me out a bit here ...
I have 2 gallons of Rust-Oleum gloss white professional paint
I have a gallon of Sherwin Williams 3rd dimension paint in white and 2 bottles of hardner.
1. Would 1 gallon of the sherwin williams paint cover a couple coats worth inside and out?
2. Will that S/W stuff spray over the Rust-Oleum primer ok?
3. If not I'll use the rustoleum
4. Will the hardener for the Sherwin Williams paint work in the Rustoleum
5. If not, what hardener should I use with the rustoleum? Can I use the hardener for the farm implement paint at Tractor Supply?
6. Would the Sherman Williams single gallon be enough to paint an F250 Super Duty and what primer should I use?
Thank you in advance for your responses

There is an additive called Japan hardener that works perfectly for rustoleum .Its commonly used by professional house painters that have to get in and out quickly .Its real cheap ,$4.00 will get you enough for several gallons of paint ,it just takes a few drops .Sherwin Williams has it for sure ,not available at Home Depot or lowes around here .

Well this is super frustrating.
I emailed RustOleum about a week ago and they FINALLY answered me today.
Sharp customer service, I tell ya. A whole week huh?
So THEY said do not use acetone and do not use hardener and to thin with mineral spirits only. I have first hand experience at seeing how unhappy acetone makes Rustoleum pro. paint.

I used Rustoleum on the chassis of my '46 Chevy. It went over their heavy rust primer. I didn't take note of fast it dried but I do recall that it had a nice shine to it and when I packed the whole truck up to ship to Denmark, the chassis looked great! Oh, did I mention I had a 351M with C6 ready to go in the truck? Was planning on going against the grain with that one.
Later!
