What's the effect if I remove my EGR (to include the carb spacer assembly) on my 76 F-100 360 and replace it with a generic spacer? Emission controls aren't a requirement here so I'm not concerned with that.
Thanks!

If it sucks exhaust gas into the base of the carb, you should be able to seal it off without a problem. You might see a increase in power because the intake charge will be colder and cleaner.

The EGR is designed to dilute the incoming charge at part-throttle cruise, thus lowering peak combustion temperatures and reducing NOx emissions. It also allows more ignition advance for the same reason (lower peak temps, some non-burnable exhaust gas that helps prevent knock).
If it is functioning properly an EGR valve does not open at wide-open throttle so your peak power will not be affected anyway. But unless you have rejetted the carb and recurved your distributor (or at least installed an adjustable vacuum advance) you may have to retard your timing to prevent detonation at part throttle, so the net effect is actually to *lose* power and economy by simply removing it.
