C-o-t

Now that the cars are 4 inches wider to move the driver more inward.
Why don't they just put them in the middle of the car like Indy-F1 etc.
This is a good move - the open wheel drivers(international) will be more used to it.

In actuality, do most forms of racing place the driver in the centerline of the car (front to rear).
The COT is making it safer for the drivers, might as well go all the way.

visibility out of the sides of the car is the biggest issue in a stock car, not to mention it would make it that much less stock....

I don't think it could get any more custom than now.

up to recent times the only thing stock on a stock car was the rear deck lid.

Some SCCA full bodied cars have the driver in the center, and they have to turn left and right.

I know the NASCAR rides are front engine/driveshaft deals, but visibility is not an excuse - then again I never drove a race car either!

Also NASCAR teams use spotters.

I think they keep the driver where they are for ballast- since they pretty much only turn left. Might see that on the road course cars, though.
The other thing is that they do directly shift the transmission still, rather than using an SMG like most other racers.
