99 standard cab 350 with built auto trand about 30000 miles ago. fluid just flushed w/o filter. i noticed when cold it does not do...but once the guage (autometer) hit's bout 125-150 the problem will start..low power levels not as much--high power levels all the time..what my trucks trans is doing is as it decided..even on the SLIGHTEST incline will unlock torque converter/switch gears (rpm's will rise then lower...rise then lower...etc.) and if i let off pedal it stops...but just BOOM outa no where it'll start that a few times and then end it. i asked a mech. at my work and he said something bout a TCC solenoid inside the trans pan.? i do have access to a scanner at my work; so i've got some tools...but where do i start diagnosing this problem? i'm scared of it and jsut wanna pay somebody to do it; but i know that could be pricey and i dotn have the most money (college student) if anybody could tell me where to start or what to do first it'd help me a lot.
This started right after the fluid was flushed? Who did it, what was put in, and why not do the filter too. That is relatively cheap.
i cannot remember if it did it or not before fluid was flushed; didnt really pay attention. The guy next door to my work flushed it with a machine, i was standing there helping. they said filter was not needed when flushing, i thought that was odd but i went along with it. i put whatever ford recommended to put in..mercon 3 or 4 i believe it is.
I admit that I am no tranny expert so hopefully someone will chime in here soon. It just struck me that you had this recent flush and your slippy dippy acting tranny just started misbehaving and it is temperature related.
My uneducated guess is that it is fluid related as the fluid performance is temp related. Hopefully it wasn't damaged in the flush process but I do not know enough about it to comment on that.
Surely you would recall the instant the tranny started misbehaving.
I know that Ford's new recommendation is to power flush and not drop the pan to change the filter. I've seen the power flusher in action, and it appears to force the fluid in under pressure to speed up the process. It's possible the flushing action stirred up some dirt of other debris which got into valve body or the TC solenoid, and this is causing a problem, but I wouldn't think dirt would cause it to cycle on and off. That sounds more like an electrical problem. On some 99's the TC unlocks when the brake is applied, and it uses the brake light switch as a trigger. I've read that this switch can go bad and cause the TC to cycle on and off.
