460 exhaust: deep, but quiet

my exhaust has some rust issues. i know nothing about exhaust. it's basically got several little rust holes all over it. anyway, i figured i'd replace the whole thing.

i like duals, but could go with a big single too.
i want them to be pretty quiet from the cab, but have a good low rumble. i want people to notice, but not have the neighbors hate me.

specific kits i should look at? single or dual? pipe inch? is it just personal preference if you go straight out the back, side exit behind rear wheels, or side exit in front of rear wheels, or does it make a sound difference?

thanks, and i'm sure i'll have more questions

A single 3" exhaust out the stock location with a FM70 BB2 or a FM50 BB muffler will give you what your after and flow much better than stock.

The FM50 BB will be slightly louder than the FM70 BB2 but both should give you a very deep sound with no drone and not be overly loud.

I would just go to a local exhaust shop and have them bend something up. Below is a link to a pre-bent cat back system that should work on your truck.

link looks good and its what i expected to spend.

i have no idea what your fmXX's mean. please explain. is than link one of them?

stupid question: the link says the style is "cat-back". i assume that means its everything from "the cat to the tailpipe". the cat is the part near the tranny that's a little thicker than the pipe, right. if so, i have rust holes BEFORE that.

If you have holes in the headpipe before the cat then I would just go to a muffler shop and have them fab the entire exhaust from the exhaust manifolds back.

The cat-back is just the from the outlet of the cat to the tailpipe as you said.

I've included links to the mufflers.

k, cool. so if i had someone fab me everything from the manifolds back, i assume i would basically bring them the muffler i want and have them build the rest. will this put me in the $350 installed range?

thanks

The price all depends on your area and the type of shop it is.

There is a shop near my house that does stuff at a good price and they would do the complete system with muffler for less than $350.

I would also check with your local exhaust shop on the muffler. I'm sure they could get you the muffler you want and it may cost less that way because you can get everything together. The exhaust shop will make money on the muffler and may charge you less for installing the pipes.

I'd go talk to the exhaust shop about it and see what they have to say and get a price quote with the muffler you want.

I would be interested to hear what your truck sounds like when you get it done. Post a video or sound clip if you can.

Just make sure if you pay for Flowmasters, you get Flowmasters. If you get them through the exhaust shop. I learned that the hard way, so im gonna install some glasspacks on my rig. I like the way they sound.

I'm not aware of anyone that makes a FM50 BB or FM70 BB mufler knock-off. Both of them are big mufflers. The companys who make FM knockoffs usually target the smaller FM mufflers.

It still is a good idea to check though.

The flowmaster 50 series is still under patent. However, if you click on Bear River Converters in the sponsors section, you will see that we do have the 50 series. I apologize that our online store is not up and running yet.
