Are you looking for fuel economy, or putting power to the ground, or towing capaibility or just trying to lower the trans temp?

You will notice more power going to the ground, If you have a strong motor it will fry the tires..Its almost like adding a chip, if you have enough motor, anything less will make the truck feel like a slug..

I am talking about a Precision, Suncoast, Ats..Use a tugger kit, if you dont have one already and pull the pump and do the lockup mods, while you have the trans out...

I actually have a tugger kit in my toolbox right now but decided not to install it because the trans shop wanted $800 so i went with bts valve body insted. If later on i deside to install the tugger kit should rebuild the whole trans or just the tugger i only have 60000 miles on the motor and trans. Thanks.......

A triple disc converter will make the truck seem like less of a "CVT" transmission when the torque converter is unlocked. By that, i mean the engine revs out and the speedometer moves in a more linear motion instead of the engine staying the same as speed increases. Supposedly i have a $1300 converter in my trans and i still think it slips too much when unlocked.

Kris, the last TC I did, used the ATS 5 disc..The truck had a good 330hp and the ATS made a dog out of the truck still..IT IS agressive...

The Tugger kit IS ALWAYS worth doing..

We have three 6.0/torqueshift trucks in the business, the CC dually 07 i drive every day, and i love how the trans shifts on acceleration. When it shifts, the RPM drops, and you can feel the torque converter is "tight". Even when towing 20K going up a hill at half throttle, the TC unlocks and then if you go full throttle, you can really feel that you just gave it more throttle, RPM doesnt sky rocket. I just like how it feels. Maybe what i need is the adapter kit and a suncoast 5r110 converter?

The torqueshift also has 5 gear ratios to work with. That makes a huge difference.

Kris, IMHO you want the 6.4 convertor int he 6L..Even for fairly modded 7.3's the 6.4 convertor is the way to go..It will be a lot smoother operation-alot more streetable.

I would recomend this combo to anyone short of running 500hp..John Woods might agree as well..

A double or triple disk clutch will do absolutely nothing to increase the HP you apply to the ground, or reduce your tranny temps, or be of any other benefit, unless your single disk clutch is slipping. If it slips much it will flash the OD light and set a code, which I can look up and post if you're interested.

Here's my analogy for comparing a multi-disc clutch to a single-disc clutch. Take a pipe wrench and apply torque to tighten a pipe connection. Say the wrench slips before you get it tightened enough. Apply a second wrench and pull on both, and now you can apply twice the torque without the wrenches slipping, and a third wrench applies X3 more torque without slipping, assuming you grow a third arm. But if one wrench tightens the pipe without slipping, then paying for one or two more wrenches is just a waste of money, and multi disk TC's don't shift nearly as smoothly as do single disk versions.

I've never slipped my stock TC towing 22,000 lbs up an 8% grade, but I do have a chip that increases line pressure some, and a rather puny early 99 truck with limited RWHP.

Now also keep in mind that when unlocked the TC is supposed to slip, and if it wasn't for heat build up more slippage is BETTER, because the slippage (along with the redirected fluid from the stator) is what's providing the torque amplification. Yes, the torque amplification of a slipping TC is its big advantage over a manual tranny. If you've got a proper TC manual lockup switch (and know how and when to use it) you can have the best of both worlds, higher torque than with a manual when getting under way, and a locked solid clutch after you're up to speed.

So.... is everyone saying a triple disk is overkill and a 6.4 converter should be more then enough for my mods and towing 12000lbs once a month good? Thanks everyone. btw how much is a 6.4 converter?

You're spoiled by the torque-shift 5'er. I too, am spoiled by it, love to drive my shops '06 Ex.

As for the 5r100 behind a 7.3... I'm all over it when Brian says so.

Patiently waiting....

Hmmm, any idea how far off this is? That would require new tunes too. Hmmm.

It would require different tunes, and it would need a stand alone controller.

Im lovin my 6L converter, its a triple friction converter which isnt the same as a triple disc, but i have no clue what the difference is. Best IMO solution, and the price isnt that expensive either.
