First off I know this will work but I was just wondering if I should ad a diffrent cam or anything while I do this. Also will there be much of a diffrence in HP?
The reason I am swapping these heads is for the hardend seats, the guy I bought the truck with the 390 in said it was rebuilt, but I have my doubts, also I like the 360 in my '70 just need diffrent heads or the hardend seats.
One more question, how much could I shave off the 390 heads and still be OK? I have heard of putting play do ine the cylider but would you need to do that on all 8 or just one? The engine will still be in the truck when I do this.
I am not real sure what kind of gains you arte expecting but most likley you won get any at all. That is nothing with just a simple head swap, as the heads are liable to be the same or at very least have the same restrictions. the thing to do would Port and match the runners on the head that is not in the truck have new hard seats put in and have Minimum 3 angle valve job done. A 5 angle would be better. But for sure the casting #'s would be very helpful as to what heads you have. and the year of the engines would be good to know also. But be aware If you are thinking about the prot work If you can't do it your self you are Liable to be out some serious cash I think I was told around $800 for that I would really consider a set of Ebok heads. on my truck I have .563 lift on the exhaust, but the duration is real short, but there was no contact problems, if you keep the cam around .513 lift and less that 220@.050 you should be just fine
Jeff, Ford says you can shave .050 off the heads without trouble. Remember, you need to shave the intake face of the heads the same amount ( and do NOT mill the sides of the intake manifold!). DF
