Ok, so after several months of work and every imaginable problem, I've got the Ford running again. I've fully rebuilt the motor from the ground up, and the first time I started it the lift on the aftermarket cam was too much for the stock springs. The springs coil bound so badly that they bent the pushrods and the engine started tapping. So I figured it all out, and put the motor back together with the aftermarket springs in this time. They have one coil less so they won't have the coil bind problem of the stockers.
When I put the engine back together, I warmed it up then pulled the valve cover and marked all the pudhrods with a Sharpie. Then I put the cover back on, ran it for a minute and checked the rods again. Four of them hadn't spun.
I hadn't torqued the rockers past zero lash, so I'm asking if this is why those rods didn't spin, or if the same coil bind that ate the rods also ate the lifters and cam. Hopefully somebody knows enough about this to answer. Thanks in advance and sorry for the long post.
