2002 powerstroke need engine.

I need a new engine for my 2002 f250. A rod hit the block . I knew the engine was not the factory it is a Ford reman engine .It was changed in 2004 .
How can I solve this problem ? shoud I buy a used complete engine? or just a good block ?
I saw a lot of engines from salvage yard "burned on top" could this be a good option if I found a low mileage block?

If you can try to get a 99-2000, and possibly 2001 motor. Mileage shouldnt be too much a concern, 100k is not a whole lot on these motors. The reason for the 99-01 motor is they have forged rods, which should eliminate what happend to you, as the late 01 + have powdered metal rods. Since you have a complete motor minus block and bottom end, you really essentially need a short block, if your familiar with engine building, or have a reputable garage to do the work. just my .02

It will all depend on what you want to spend you can buy a reman longblock from know suppliers for around 5000 I bet a good used one is going for around 2500 or more. If you don't mind me asking how did you put a rod into the block ? What mods were you running ?

The HP is in the programming, not the engine.

Yes there are reputed to be early 01s with forged rods. I have PMRs in mine. Build date of Sep 00. Keep in mind it is dependant on engine assembly plant too.

As Kwik pointed out, they are pretty much all the same except for the tune until you dip into the early SDs which have physical differences.

I checked the engine today and saw that the broken rods in my truck are from '99 or 2000 forged model. Therefore, I want to emphasize that forged rod are not unbreakable like many people in this forum seem to believe.

Nope, Forged Rods have been known to fail as well.

Billet are nice if you have the coin.

I know DI sells short blocks:

The blocks include the following:

* New Low Pressure Oil Pump
* Remanufactured Lifters
* Fel-Pro Engine Gasket Set
* Mahle Pistons and Rings
* Clevite Bearings
* FORGED CONNECTING RODS!!!

Ok, just so happens I found this place http://www.engineserviceinc.net/ on another site. The provider of the info says DI (ie. David Lott) told him this is where DI gets their short blocks.

Hope this helps.

Plus you get a long block for less than DI's short block

I have a 2000 7.3 with 4,000 miles on it if you can pick it up in S.E. Florida. It has been stored indoors and still looks brand new. PM if interested.

Curious, how did you end up with that? Somebody T-bone you right after you put an engine in?

I had two 99 f550's and a 2000 Excursion all with 7.3's so I saw it for sale on ebay and bought it. I have since updated my trucks to 6.0's and no longer need the 7.3. It was good insurance,I find if I have a spare I'll never need it....and it worked.
