2001 powerstroke

With the hood open on the left side of the engine compartment there is a pump [?] of some sort that sits right in front of the heater fan. It seems to be making more noise than normal as i can hear it when i wait for the wait to start light to go off. Any ideas? Thanks Phil

its a vacum pump, that might indicate that you have vacum leak, check your ESOF hoses going to the wheels, or vacum solenoid might be a problem,

It is a vacum pump>mine also makes noise I believe it is supposed to for a little bit until the vacum has built up then it turns off.About 20-30 secs.
