i had 16 boxes of ceramic tile weighing in at 44 lbs. a piece stacked in 4 rows of 4 across my tailgate while my lazy butt was carrying them in the house (704 pounds )
have done this many times and i have even stood on it with the tile on there too on my 99 f250
It would probably hold, but with easy as it is to remove the tailgate you might as well take it off.
Just unhook the two cables, and pull up on the passenger side. There is a little slot where the tailgate unhooks from the hinge and then you just pull it off. It seriuosly takes about 10 seconds once you know how to do it, that is why tailgate theft has become so popular in some areas.
I agree, with something that just takes seconds to remove, why take the chance?
RogueSpear2023, I have to move a 775 pound safe up to the 2nd floor im going to have 2 of my friends help, I was going to use a hand truck that rated to 1000LBS what do you think?
~Gage~
Don't have anyone on the bottom, that is asking for trouble. If you are using a hand truck, tie a big rope to it, and all three of you pull on the rope from the top of the stairs. I've done this before to remove an old water heater from a basement before.
WEll, as said above, it'll probably hold a lot more than you would want to put on it, but as was also said, it does bend (bow) fairly easily. Mine is bowed towards the middle where I've run my motorcycle across it a number of times. And other things I'm sure. Still looks great outside, but inside it looks like...well, it looks like it's been given a good workout!!
