Hi all,
I've just changed the old Holley 4bbl for a new Carter 4bbl. I put the vacuum lines that were on the Holley right onto the Carter. Everything seems fine except the transmission now downshifts when the engine revs fall. Should the vacuum line to the transmission be connected somewhere else or is there some other fix I could try? 390/C6.

Do you have a Vacuum tree on the back of the intake manifold, with about 4-5 outlets with a few rubber plugs on them ?
That's where you connect the transmission vacuum line to.
Not the bottom of the carb !

Look for a threaded hole about 5/8-3/4 " at the Right rear of the intake.
Or look for a Plug with a square top for a wrench or a recessed square hole that an extension from a socket set could be used to remove.

I could be completely wrong about this, but could you have possibly connected the transmission vacuum modulator line to the ported vacuum on the carb, not the full manifold vacuum? That way when you lift your foot the ported vacuum goes to 0" which makes the trans modulator think you floored it? The ported vac. should go to your distributor advance canister.
If he's using full manifold vacuum already, why would it make a difference whether he gets it off the "tree" or from the large port beneath the throttle blades?
As it was explained to me many moons ago.
DON'T hook up accessories near the carburetor.
Accessories ie:brake booster,transmissions,cruise control.
These can run off a seperate vacuum outlet.
As it turns out, I had the distributor and trans vacuum lines on the wrong ports on the carb. One of them is timed vacuum and one is manifold vacuum. It now runs like the beautiful piece of machinery that it is. Thanks for everyone's help.
