I had a mechanic replace an injector last week that was no good. Today, the truck started acting up like it did when it needed the new injector. Is it common for injectors to go simultaneously?
Also, the mechanics bill for that one injector & oil temp sensor was almost $1200. Anybody got any lube?
how many miles on your truck?how does it run on the highway?
for 1200 you could got a set of stage1's
He did a buzz test with a Snap-on computer, when it came to #3, it was obvious something was wrong, I was there when he did the test.
The truck has 163,000 miles on it, up to about 55 under a load it's very noticeable after that it smooths out. After, he changed the first injector it ran like a new truck.
I'm a pretty fair mechanic but not real versed on the powerstroke. I was going to change it myself but he talked me out of it, he said it was very complicated.
Doesn't smoke.
I love my old truck & want to make it a beauty queen so talk me out of selling it.
#1....dont sell it. i wouldnt sell mine for all of the tea in china. once you start modifying it, you'll never want to get rid of it.
#2.... call beans diesel performance or diesel performance plus and get a set of stage I(orII, or III, or B-code...depending on your mental sanity/wallet thickness). starting around 625, you can have more performane and professionally rebuilt injectors.
pull the valve cover off and check the connections to make sure an injector plug didnt come loose.
after you do that, with the valve covers off start the truck.look at the oil that is coming out of the injectors.if their one not fireing it won't have oil coming out like the others.(it won't make a mess as long you don't rev it up)
the oil comes out the spout the on the left back (valley side)of the injector.you will see we you get their.
you can do it youself, got any questions about removing them just ask
On your first inj you hada loos poppet screw, could of fixed it for the price of a 4mm socket.
This one may also be a loose poppet, if you run another buzz that would be the easiest way to find t. If not then try and narrow it down by unplugging the inj harness at the vc, this will kill two injs at a time but you canrock it back andforth to make one work at a time. Do this till you can narrow it down to the cylinder that doesnt make much difference when unpluggd then pull that vc. Once off run the engine and look for a inj not squirting oil, this is the one. Now take the soleniod off the top and check the 1"x1" pate to see if its loose, it is then the center screw will have to be tightened. There is a special socket for it t you can grind down the outside of a 4mm socket and get it pretty tight.
I don't know about anyone else, but I just learned something!!! Thanks Ryan.
I would also take a close look at the VC connections. Look for burnt ones. I've also seen them burnt up the wire harness too. So removing the conveluted tubing that covers the wires for a few inches to take a look wouldn't hurt either. Also Ryan, could the idm be acting up on the low side causing this? Just a thought. I don't even know if it controls low, and high differently. Just thinking out loud.
