Lift kits

Since we can't see what type of truck you are talking about, it is going to be difficult to answer. Are you refering to the F-250 in your profile?
Is this 250 a 4wd? (never thought there would come a day when I would ever have to ask that!)
The answer to the kits, is no. There are no manufacturered kits that have this type of lift in one package, but that is not to say that it can't be done.
How much tire do you want to clear? 12 inches is a ton of lift, and most guys get pretty excited about how much they think they need to lift a truck.
As an example I run a 6" Super Duty spring under the front of my 74 250, and a stock chebby 64" 2wd rear spring to clear 40" boggers. Fenders are not cut, and it rides well, and flexes very well.
Could not imagine what a 12" spring would be like.

Sorry, I think i typed that twice and forgot my info the second time. It's a 78 F250 4x4.
I guess I will go for 6 inches and see how that turns out since I know there are kits for that. Is a grand for just the parts too much? new springs in front and blocks in back. Or is there a better way of doing this?
Sorry for the newb questions. I am new to trucks but not mechanics really. Just my two other cars look better lowered than raised ;-)
so with a 6" lift and 40 inch tires essentially my truck will have this stance (stole from your gallery):

If you are going to buy a complete kit, you will be limited to just 6 inches for a 3/4 ton truck. With a 6 inch kit you will clear 36" tires and have some room for off road flex. I have seen 38's under a 6" 78-79 with a little fender trimming, or trucks that rarely see any off road use.
You will want to also consider some sort of steering correction for a truck with this much lift. Brake lines will be a factor, parking brake cables start geting a little short, but all of the brackets can be modified to work.
You had not answered, how big of a tire were you after?

The front springs under this truck are 6" BDS springs for a 99-04 Super Duty gasser.
I am not a fan of the springs found in conventional "kits". They are pretty stiff, and do not flex all that well. I was after ride comfort, and a great deal of flex. I also had to fab custom shock mounts since the springs had more travel than the standard shock mounts couls accomodate. Mounting points with factory brackets were not far enough apart.

I dont mind a stiffer ride since I dont plan on needing as much flex as I can get.I just want to be able to have some fun on my dads land and still be able to street it easily. It's unfortunately my daily driver right now with my mazda and M3 being down. Gave me time time to think about restoring it and adding some extras.
Off the original topic and prob not the best place to ask but I will anyways. Is it more of a headache than its worth to drop a 460 in place of the 400 I have in there?

For all it is worth, I spent about $500.00 for brand new front springs, and the rear springs cost about $40.00, and that included the hangers needed to perform my shackle flip out back. So for about half of the money it takes to buy a complete kit, I was able to build my own and recieved a better ride, and considerably more flex than the springs designed for our 30 year old trucks. Now this will require some fab work, and this is not a direct bolt in swap like a kit would offer, but it is not too difficult.
As far as the 460 goes, I am a big fan of larger displacement engines, It is like free horsepower and torque. There are a fem modifications that have to be made to get a 460 in there, but these too are very minor compared to the reward.
Search a little, or just visit some of the older posts to find the 460 swap. It has been done, and covered very thoroughly. We see this question on many occassions, and it has been covered well.

I can describe anything that you wish. The only fab stuff was regarding the rear shackle flip The front just about bolts right up. There are a few options that can and will determine the overall heigth of your ride. I have gone over this with a few of the fellas, and I even helped one of our other members lift one right here at my house, so the fab work is not all that difficult.
PM me with specific questions, or e-mail swap so I can share some recent pics with you. I believe that I included a pic with the part number for the actual spring I used.
The 77.5 to 79 trucks are a little easier to lift using the SD springs because of the hanger and shackle length, but they still need to be modified a little.
Let me know what I can help you with.
