strange problem eludes me
i have a 92 f350 7.3 idi 5 speed.......
It starts HARD, smokes, has loss of power....... and sounds real strange out the exhaust pipe.....
i just aquired the truck and it is clean and pristine....
new injectors, new glowplugs, new INJECTOR PUMP, and 350 plus compression all around......
it is driving me mad....... any speculations??????
it was just put on this week........ and it ran exactly the same
Do a pressure and flow test of the fuel pump at the Schrader valve on the filter header (FSS- fuel shutoff solenoid disconnected on IP). Remove the tire valve core and hook a hose and pressure guage on it should see 4-6 psi when cranking. Then do a fuel quantity test same place, should see 1/3 pint in 10 seconds of engine cranking, route fuel to a suitable container with a hose.
2 Did you replace the fuel filter BEFORE installing the new IP....... required!!
3. If your mech disturbed the injector return lines they may be allowing air intrusion into the fuel system.......... hard starts
4. Are the GPs working how long does the WTS light stay on........
5. Sound like timing is definitely retarded.......... are the fast idle solenoid (frt rt) and timing advance left rear elec connector on the IP getting power key on cold engine, are they working.....

fuel filter is new
it ran the same with the old injection pump
i have clear lines on pump to check for air.......
it sounds like valve problem out the exhaust....... very strange mechanichal knocking, loping.........
but good compression......
is it possible i have a derailed exhaust rocker or something.......
this truck is so clean and not abused it was very well taken care of........
the last owner had it for ten years and it has been the same for him all this time....
he only put 10000 on it in 10 years........
