I have a 1994 Ford F-350 7.3 idi turbo diesel i took the factory turbo off and put a banks sidwinder on made a cold air intake for and turnded the injection pump screw all the way up now my next step is to put twins on it and im wondering what kind of turbo i can combine with the banks im going to stud the heads on it so they wont be flying off up in the air if anyone can help me that would be awesome.
The idea of twin turbos has been floated around a few times before, i thought of doing it once, but after getting some old T3s and trying to figure out how to plumb everything, I figured i would be better off with a single turbo.
So far it would seem that no one has tried it. But the turbo you just removed is capable of holding in the mid 20s, Dave S. spends some time there, although his engine is no completely stock.
There's a guy over at oilburners who just posted pics of his setup....I can't remember the exact details though...maybe a PowerStroke turbo feeding the stock turbo (some other turbo feeding the stock turbo anyway). Turbo 1 lives under the truck, turbo 2 right where the stocker lives. I can't remember if he's got an intercooler or not.

Do it! I'd love to put twins on mine when I get the money. You're going to need more then head studs to keep compression in the cylinders though. ATS offers heads with built in fire rings but they're about $2,500 I think. Dropping the compression a bit wouldn't hurt either and you'll definately want an intercooler and sum bigger injectors and a built pump. It won't be cheap but it sure will be cool!
IIRC the guy that set this up is not running any insane boost numbers i think 18 was his max. the motor was set up with studs and such to handle boost but it was more for quick response.
the smaller turbo could boost quickly from the get go and the larger one can boost at higher rpms. not so much more boost but quicker boost over a greater rpm range. he seems real happy with it.
I'm planing on having twins before next summer im going to get ken from dps performance to hook me up with injectors, headstuds, and a injection pump we have a pretty good size truckpull were im at and its a army of dodges so by next summer i plan on having 1 mean ford wen i hit the track..And the stock turbo that i pulled off i probably would consider selling it.
of cource it'll be cool, just imagine the bragging rights.....................but remember another turbo doesn't nessasarily mean more pressure but more volume..
That is the thing with twin turbo's. If you stage them right and have the hot air to drive them you can get a huge of boost pressure. I have seen pulling tractor bust 200 PSI several times.
Turbo boost pressure is the result of supplying more air volume than the engine can use.
So if you increase the air volume, you increase the pressure.
The higher the pressure, the more volume the engine gets.
