I pulled up to the gas station, filled'er up with 23 gallons of diesel. Went to start, nothing. The motor is turning but I'm getting no ignition. The more I try obviously the more the batteries starts to die. I see no leaks or have no bad smells. The ECT was fine too.
I vote HPOP connector fitting cracked/broken if it hasn't been fixed already. It might start when it cools down, but it's gonna leave you stranded if you don't get it fixed.
I see where they replaced the HPOP, but it's the fitting/tube assy. that connects it to the block that goes bad--not the pump. You should point this out when it goes in. There is an upgraded connector/tube assy to fix it and if you're not over on mileage it should be repaired under the 5yr/100k $100 deduct. warranty.
The same thing happened to me. It was an oxidized connection at the ICP sensor. They replaced harness by splicing in a new connector as well as the sensor itself. Ihope this helps

What year model is your truck? early 04 with the ICP underneath the turbo?
Thanks guys for the responses. The fuel filters were replaced less than 300 miles ago at the 60,000 service. So I hope not!
The truck sat for maybe 3 hours and then it fired on the first try. Whoohoo!!! But not really. I drove the truck 27 miles at 75 MPH to the nearest Ford Dealer with no problems. When I get to the dealer I try to duplicate the problem. I was able to stop and restart the truck 6 times will no issues. WHAT! Now I got duplication problems.
Even though it was a cooler time a day, I'd think the truck would have been having the same problem? Why is it not failing now?
Is there any other information I should give the dealer tommorrow morning? You know, try to convince them to go ahead and replace the fitting/tube assy.
2005-07 F-SuperDuty/Excursion No-Start, High Pressure Oil System Leak:
Some trucks may develop an oil leak at the high pressure oil pump outlet fitting. This will cause a no-start condition as the computer needs to see at least 500 PSI before it will activate the injectors. In some cases the no-start will be intermittent and/or an intermittent stall with no codes will occur. If high pressure oil leak diagnosis indicates a leak at the pump, the pump outlet fitting (W301727) and the discharge tube block should be replaced with fitting and bracket kit 4C3Z-9B246-A. Do not torque the outlet fitting beyond 38 ft/lbs. If the leak is traced to the branch tube running through the engine block, replace with P/N 5C3Z9J332-B (requires removal of the transmission, flywheel and rear engine cover; new flywheel bolts required). TSB 06-14-6. The following bulletin may be related: Metal Tapping Noise from Rear of Engine:
Excursions built after 1-10-05 and 2005/06 F-SuperDuty may have a metal tapping noise from the rear of the engine on decel or light acceleration, or under loads when the high oil pressure is at higher levels. This may be due to a damaged/improperly fitting HP oil pump output quick connect fitting. To diagnose, you will need a scan tool with active command capability. Command the IRP duty cycle to 45% and listen at the high pressure oil pump cover with a stethescope as the engine speed is increased to 2800 RPM. If the noise is louder on the pump cover than on other parts of the engine, the pump cover will need to come off to inspect and replace the fitting. Broadcast Message 5511.
After much hassel, the dealer has looked at the problem and cannot duplicate the issue. In a previous thread, I asked about PCM modifications and cat back issues. They at this time believe a tuner is on the truck. Amazing huh? Anyways, I've asked them to reflash the PCM with a Ford stock flash.
Is there anything from a customer stand point that I should be asking that they do in effort to fix this problem even though they cannot be duplicated at this time.
Was the possibility now that the the PCM with be reflashed to stock that I might not see this issue again?

Seems like npccpartsman had it right, the HPOP fitting as in the TSB I posted, 06-14-6, a problem which may only show up intermittently when the engine is hot. Print that out and show them the TSB. Sometimes you've got to fight for what's right, especially if they don't have a motivated, Certified 6.0 Technician on staff in the service department.
I'm thinking the engine and fitting got 'heat soaked' as you filled up at the station hence the no-start. After cooling off for 3 hours it fired right up. Taking it to the service department it only sits for a few minutes so you would not have actually duplicated the conditions of the no-start.
Thanks Kepler4, help me out with one thing. I cannot find the TSB for this. I've searched the TSB section with no link. could you post the link directly for me? Thanks much.
Understood, however, printing this thread out and taking it to a dealer wouldn't really fly. I'd like a something a little more specific to the TSB other than a thread topic..
