I'm wondering what the difference in the the cheap and the expensive ceramic is besides the warranty. If the cheap are just as good, is what I really want to know?
Do I really need to spend 2x for one pad to get my money out of ceramics?
I can't speak for the Advanced Auto stuff, but I have lifetime warranty ceramic pads for the rear of my Mustang and had them for the front before the Cobra brake conversion. IIRC they were only $40 for the lifetime warranty. I would check those out as well.
Lifetime warranty on brake pads is nice as you won't have to buy another set of them again.
I put them on my truck at about 1k miles, only have 5k on it now so I can't give you any longevity opinions but they seem good so far. I do notice a very slight squeel when the rotors are cold, after a couple stops it goes away. They are a major, major improvement for dusting and seem to stop just as well as the stock pads.
I would think Mustang pads would be cheaper because they are smaller than a truck. I buy oil and hoses and stuff like that at AZ. When it comes to impotant stuff I use NAPA. I bought cheap brakes for my 91 (not ceramic) at AZ about a year later the pad seperated from the steel.
You would think so, but the cobra brakes are 13" rotors with twin pot calipers.
I have never had a problem with autozone brake pads, even their cheaper ones. My truck blew through a set of Napa pads in less than 9,000 miles. I have that many miles on the autozone ones now and they are still probably 60% remaining.
I must have got a bad set. That one truck of mine sits A LOT. I drive it about 3000 miles a year. That might have caused something. Nice stag gota love red. I have a picture somewhere of one of my old cars (red) looks like it was taked at the same place. I'm about 2000 miles away from you in PA.
All you have to do is check the thickness of the both pads and you will see quickly what the difference is. The advanced pads have much thinner pads, the more expensive pads are the same thickness as the original pads.. You get what you pay for..
