Exhaust ????

I'm kinda of new at this and been doing some research about getting an exhaust for my 04 F250 EC 6.0L. Not quite sure what kind to get. What is a good brand to get and what is the difference in performance between cat back and turbo back. Currently everything is stock but after I get a new exhaust I want to get a tuner for it any help would be appreciated.

I have had a 4" MBRP system on my last two trucks and have really liked them. As far as the difference between cat back and turbo back, with the turbo back you will have a larger down pipe wich means better flow. Both of mine have been turbo back systems. As you will see, the tunner of choice on this site is the Xcalibrator 2 wich I ran on my 7.3 but have not ran on my 6.0 yet. Just my opinion and I am sure someone who knows better than me will chime in.

Good luck, elkarcher

I have never had a cat back system so I cant say for sure. I would asume it would change somewhat depending on the muffler if you use one. Turbo back is a lot more noticable especially straight piped like mine.

I had a Magnaflow turbo back, drove that for a while, then restored the cat into the system. I would say there was minimal difference outside the truck, mostly just a little more turbo whine without the cat. Inside the cab the cat made it significantly quieter. Pretty much the opposite affect from what you want.

All in all, if there is a muffler in place the noise difference is minor. If you want real noise, you need to ditch the muff at least. Next step is straightpiped.

I'm not looking for something extremly loud just a little more noise then stock. Putting a cat or turbo back system on will I be able to tell a difference from what it ws when it was stock.

My Magnaflow was installed by the previous owner, so I never heard my truck with the stock muffler. After I got it I installed the cat, so that is the comparison I have. Now having noted that, I have test driven brand new trucks as well as observing others on the road, and now that the cat is back in place I think there is very little difference in sound. Mine is probably a little richer sounding back at the tail pipe, throatier, but certainly not loud.

You won't see a noticable perfomance gain with an aftermarket exhaust. The makers usually have HP and Torque charts to show some gain, but it's minimal. The reason you want an exhaust system is to lower EGT, particularly if you go with a tuner. The second reason is for sound, if that's your thing. But unless you delete the muffler you might be underwhelmed by the change in sound.

I'm looking at a 4"MBRP Turbo back if I use the cat delete pipe that will also make it a little louder right. I want something a little louder but I believe if I take myffler out its going to be a little to much.

I've pretty much reached the limit of my experience on this, so have to say I don't know. I have read posts here about an aftermarket muffler that could be installed in one of two directions, one louder and one not so loud. I can't recall if that was MBRP. Don't think so. You might want to wait for someone with MRBP experience, and also some search time on this forum and the Superduty forum will turn up a lot of info.

Good luck,
Bill

I have an AFE exhaust, and I took out the cat, but still have the muffler. It is louder when you jump on it and hit in the high 2's on the rpm, but regular running around it's not going to sound much louder, it's really when you gun it that you are going to notice the sound differance.

you will find as many different answers to your question as there options for you out there.. it's personal preference, most brands are so close that you should just go for the best price, and whichever vendor gives you the most "warm fuzzy" feeling when you talk to them

Exhaust upgrade is for cooler exhaust temps, usually for towing purposes.
Magnaflow has a full 4"Turbo Back. All their superduty systems are Lifetime warranty and made only in stainless steel. Part #17922 ( for non dualies ), It sounds real good too. No agressive sound or harshness to it at all. A real improvement over "straight pipes".

You can start by researching the customer reviews on our shop's website here: http://motorhaven.autoanything.com/exhausts-mufflers/10A50209.aspx

Adding a tuner can also give you nice boost in hp and fuel economy (especially when you use it with aftermarket parts -- intake, exhaust, etc) We carry those also: http://motorhaven.autoanything.com/performance-chips/20A50211A1.aspx
