Big Problem Please Help

Well i was just on my way home from work in my truck. Ive got a 5 speed and i noticed the truck was revving higher than it usually does when i was stopped at a light. I tapped the gas pedal lightly so the revs went up and they fell very slowly. The light turned green and i started to drive away and i noticed that when im accelerating...i bring it up to whatever rpm to shift. i press the clutch pedal and the revs stay in the same spot...they hardly fall at all...the finally fall after ive changed gears and released the clutch pedal. at this point im coming down my street to my house...i pull up to a stop sign...put the clutch it and the truck revs really high for a second and then the revs slowly fall. I have no idea where to start diagnosing the problem can somebody please help me. I hope i made this clear enough for someone to understand!

Like PLC said check the cable, I have also seen worn governors do this.

Heck it is a Ford. It doesn't want to slow down.

Ok well i figured out what the problem was....i stole a picture from dave and ill post that so you guys can see what im talking about....and hopefully fix the new problem i found while fixing the original problem....will it ever end!!

Ok hopefully you guys can see the picture. ok well the thing in the red circle....is held onto the engine by 2 bolts...one bolt was completely gone....probably on the road i take everday going to and from work...the second bolt was about half out....so the thing in the red circle fliped forward in the direction of the red arrow...now that the thing in the red circle is fliped forward....whenever i took my foot off the gas pedal...the throttle(in pink circle)...would follow the pink arrow...BUT since the thing in the red circle was flipped forward the throttle was hitting it and not able to close all the way...so i went to the auto parts store with the 1 bolt in hand and asked for the same bolt...which they were nice enough to give to me for free!!...so i came home put the 2 bolts back in and all my problems are fixed....not really!. the think in the green circle....does anyone know what it is or what it does? right now i can grab it and it slids in and out of the thing in the red circle...should it be able to slide in and out? Hopefully i didnt lose you guys somewhere in all that!

If I understand your description and picture correctly the thing in the green circle is the green circle is the piston in the fast idle selonoid wich is what is in the red circle. When your engine is cold the fast idle ciruit is activates the selenoid and the piston is extended to push your throtle open to provide fast idle until the engine warms up.

alright so the piston should be able to move freely right now...and it pushes out and stays out when needed correct?...is there some way to test and make sure that piston and solenoid are working? Thanks

when you're truck starts in the morning you should give it a little throttle and it should idle at about 1,000 rpms for a few minutes if it is working right.

How do you get the fast idle solenoid to kick on manually? I leave my truck running for a while in the morning and it would be nice if it kept idling high so it stays warmed up but I don't know how to do it..??

wait till a cool morning and start your truck then open the hood and see if it working i have to adjust the bracket to get it touching the throtle cable so it will work

Put the fast idle solenoid on a separate wire and switch with 12V power (key on)..... The power it gets now shuts off at 112*F.....
