Just recieved the latest issue of Muscle Mustangs and Fast Fords and low and behold a 7.0L development motor has been uncovered!
According to the article, it is a push rod ( yep I said it ) motor with hemi style heads. From little info the author of the article revieved on the motor is that it could very well go into special edition Mustangs and possibly a version of the motor could fit into the new truck line.
All speculation of course and I forgot the magazine at home but I can update later on the actual stats they had on the motor. Or if someone else can provide the info it would be helpful also.
It sounds very promising performance wise. Now if Ford sales would quit plumiting ( sp? ) so possibly this motor can see the light of day!!!
Alrighty, here some facts quoted right out of the article.
"Our Detroit sources tells us this engine is 7.0L ( about 427 c.i. ), and it can go as big as 7.5L. We also hear is has favorable 4.250 inch bores, and from we can calculate that the stroke is roughly 3.75 inches, offering nice revability. As for the heads, we hear the valves are laid out in a Hemi - style configuration, and we think there's a camshaft in the block with some pushrods in there. "
The engine is currently in Don Bowles NMRA Open Comp Roush Mustang and it's run a best of 9.10 @ 145 in at 3,300 lbs.
Here are some pics. This was a good excuse to try out the scanner I bought over a year ago!
I knew there was a thread or two started already on this in another section. There wasn't one in this section and I've never seen pictures and an article on it until this week.
too bad its probably not a production motor....ford needs something to compete with chevys 500Hp 7.0....and if that one puts out 800Hp it would give them a nice edge
like snowdog79 said, I personally think that this is not a pushrod engine! I believe that they made the OHC plunge and it would look like they are taking a step backward if they go to a pushrod design. If Toyota and Nissan can make an OHC engine work for them then Ford can too!!!!
