I have the D2TEAA heads in my 75 truck. I plan to port them and build up a fast engine. I have many questions about port work. I have not had this done before and need to know what to tell the machine shop.
I plan to get the 2.09/1.65 oversize valves, and use new guide valve seals. I will match the intake ports to the RPM performer manifold by using the Felpro 1247 Gasket for that intake. Then once I decide on the headers I get, I guess I use that gasket to port the exhaust ports??
How much of the intake should be polished??. I need help to understand what humps need to come out of the exhaust?? And how much of that should be opened up and polished??
And, Oh yah. Can the machine shop do a good job drilling out and tapping new threads for exhaust manifold bolts?
You might want to contact power heads (www.powerheads.com) all they do is head rebuilding and porting and are really resonable. If you want to do it yourself then bowl porting under the valve is your biggest gain, just do some reshaping and smoothing, never polish the intakes, get rid of the bump in top of the exhaust port, don't port match the exhaust but try port matching the intake- bolt on the heads with head gaskets, bolt on the manifold with the type of gaskets you will be using and mark reference points on the gasket edges and head so when you take off the manifold you can set the gaskets on the heads and mark the port outline
Horse, good choice on the heads, The D2TE-AAs are a beefy casting with lots of meat in them. You're on the right track with the intakes as far as port matching to the FP1247 gasket. You can polish the lumps in your intake ports ( one lump per head ), but don't grind much on it. There is an oil passage in that lump that feeds oil to the rockers. Thenkel is giving good advice on the exhaust ports, grind out the bumps in the roof but don't try to enlarge the port. You will probably want new hardened seats for the exhaust. You machinist will need to make sure the bowls are opened up to match the new valve sizes. On a set of C8AE-Hs that I put the 2.09/1.65 combo in, I bored the ex bowl open to 1.5 inches, 1/2 inch deep from the valve seat. Then I used a die grinder too smooth into the original bowl. Same thing on the intake bowl, 1/2" straight down from the inside diameter of the valve seat, then blend with a grinder. DF
I read a pretty good article at www.fordmuscle.com, you might want to look at that. I think you have to subscribe for 5 bucks to get the whole article, but it details porting pretty well. I have not tried it yet, but hope to in the future. Good Luck
