Engine misfiring

While sitting at a stand still in traffic this morning. My engine started to misfire, only happened about twice in a ten minute period of time. When it did misfire, the volt meter dropped. But then it was fine. I'm gonna give it a complete tune up.

The only thing that has happened recently was yesterday i almost ran out of gas on the way home. Truck was on E for a good 20 minutes. Power outtage in 2 towns on my way home so no where to fill up.

Could I have killed the fuel pump??

92 f150 4x4 Six in a row making it go!!

Sounds like you may have picked up some water in the fuel system. I would put a couple of cans of 'heet' or other gas dryer in the fuel tank to help clear out any water in the system. I doubt you did anything to the fuel pump since this problem seems pretty intermittent.

The volts dropped because the rpm's dropped way off.

So the truck actually died this time, clutch in and it just died. It started right up, good thing too rush hour middle of a bridge!!!!

Pulled the codes

118 Coolant temp sensor above max voltage
542 Fuel pump secondary circuit fault
554 fuel pressure regulator control circuit failure
556 fuel pump relay primary circuit failure

I'm guessing the Relay is dieing and the temp sensor is dead. Any suggestions???
Or would the fuel pump be dieing???

I would throw an EEC relay at it.

If you did your tune-up, and did something to purge the water out of the fuel system and are still having problems, I woould take a good look at the truck's electrical system. Setting all of these codes, some unrelated to others, at one time seems unusual. I would check all of the engine, body, instrument panel, etc. grounds for broken or corroded connections. You could also have poor or corroded connections at the fuse panel or battery leads. The truck is old enough to have some grounding problems. You may even want to add a couple of new grounds: engine to body & frame, dash to body, etc.

Actually after i pulled the codes, I checked the grounds. They were pretty bad, I cleaned them all up and went for a short drive seemed ok and did not throw any new codes. I'm going for a 3 hour drive tomorrow and i'll see what happens.

I'm also going to replace wires, cap, rotor, and possibly the coil. I haven't done it in two years so might as well do it now. I'll put new plugs in as well.

I'll get something to remove water from the fuel system as well. I've got a long weekend and i'll check everything out.

I'll keep you posted.

Figured it out!!!

One of the wires leading to the coil was barely holding on. I was poking around checking everything out and it pulled right off.

This was where the misfire was coming in and it was shutting power off to teh computer giving me all those codes.

Thanks for your help.
