Hey guys I just joined the forum and was in need of a little help.
Now I don't have a Ford Truck, but I'm definitley a Ford guy (sitting next to my Mustang right now) and am checking out an F-series for my next serious off-roader.
Back on topic, I'm installing some underglow on someone's 2008 F-250 Superduty and of course want to do a great job. The only problem is running a cable from outside and under the body of the car to the interior. Are there any factory holes that I could utilize? The owner isn't quite ready to put holes in his new baby (who can blame him) so any help would be greatly appreciated guys!
well that depends where you need to bring the wire in yet, theres a rubber gromet on the firewall and then theres some at the back of the cab where the bed meets the cab just make a tiny slit in one of the rubber gromets and then feed the wire through
Also, there are 4 wires running from the engine compartment to the cab, for use in hooking up accesories. On the '07s they are tied off by the brake master cylinder, don't know hwere they might be on an '08 but I suspect they would be in the same location.
I'm mainly looking at taking the wire through an area close to the driver footwell. Do you think the firewall would be the best place to find an entrance? I just want to make sure I know what I'm doing before I start the work.
If you can't find the pre-installed factory wiring for running items through the firewall, on the drivers side firewall, a little behind and to the left of the brake pedal, you will see a cut-out in the insulation material up on the firewall. Pull that out and you should see a plastic blank the you can remove from the engine compartment side with 1 bolt. Make your hole, insert wiring, bolt the blank back int oplace and done.
But you would be better off looking for the preinstalled wiring. Anyone know where it comes out on the inside?
Thanks BillyBob69 now I see what Redford was saying
My only problem is one of the cables is a serial data cable
Its basically the size of a coaxial cable you plug into your tv for picture
Would it be possible to run this into the cabin?
I just installed my KCs and need to wire to the inside. This post seemed to answer my question except where exactly the four wires are to be found, either inside the cab or in the engine compartment. They're not mentioned in the Owners' Manual. I'm working on a 2005 F250 SD Crew Cab. Thanks all!
They are easy to spot, when you open the hood, look at the wiring harness at the firewall just above the fusebox and you will see the 4 wires sticking out with nothing hooked to them.
The other end of the wires is under the dash directly behind the interior fusebox.
