i have a limited slip posi in right now but it never seems to lock up on take off. i know it switches from one side to the other but doesnt engage both tires at the same time, wich is wat i want! im lookin for a fairly cheap but dependable solution to this without weldin it up. i dont use this truck for off roadin except a lil backroad drivin out in the country n i dont plan on drivin my truck in the winters but its a daily driver the rest the season. basically i want it to lock both tires up wen acceleratin n wouldnt care if it unlockd while i was off the accelerator or not. thanks for all ur help.
Assuming this is a Ford (you didn't say anything about the vehicle) it doesn't have positraction. That's a GM term for a limited slip differential.
If your truck does have a limited slip, it sounds like it might be worn out. How many miles are on it? From your description of how you use it, it doesn't even sound like you need a limited slip, never mind a locker.
yes its a ford...its an 86 f150 with 3.55 slip posi.i dont know how many miles are on it exactly but when i pulled the motor out awhile back before i put the new one in it had prolly 150,000.
you cant really have as much fun with one wheel wonders as that of both tires lockin up

ok ill try that first to see if this is a setup where both tires will lock up under acceleration. if its not than what else would i b lookin for to accomplish that?
Reguardless a limited slip will never "lock up" the tires. One will always be slipping somewhere. You can rebuild the trac-loc if you wish and you can even install some of your old clutches in with the new kit to make it lock up a little better. If you want a locker you can put in a lock rite or any of the other lunch box lockers. A new one will run around $300-$400 depending on brand. A used one will be much cheaper.
not sure what your diff is but i am rebuilding a 9 inch limited right now. The parts for the limited slip were about 69 dollars. You could swap in a mini spool if you wanted to. They give you full lock with no tire slip. Its like welding the gears without welding. They are dirt cheap but are hard on tires. With the way you use your truck i wouldn't sugguest you geting a mini spool. they are just not good for highway driving.
My suggestion would be to get a lock right locker. They are pretty cheap, usually in the 200 dollar range, and they work awsome for you type of application.
its an 8.8 rear end. i know for my use of the truck posi wouldnt really benefit me that much but wen the roads are wet its hard to take off cus one tires is always spinnin n goin round corners is also a bear cus the inside is always spinnin even takin it easy round the corner. but anyway ive always wanted it to be posi specially when i go to the car shows n all with it n we do smokeouts. it doesnt smoke as great with one wheel spinin n not the other but also it just looks funny to see one black mark on the road from doin burnouts.

Mini spools will not fit in a LS 8.8 anyway. It has to be an open 8.8.
I believe Ford racing now has a carbon fibre clutch pack for the 8.8, that was designed for svt mustangs and higher torque applications. might be better, dont know anyone thats used it though. Im looking at purchasing it.
The powertrax work good although if I were you I would get a lockright instead because they are cheaper and work just as well if not better. I have one and it has taken 40k miles of abuse and I havent had a problem with it at all. I have towed 17k lbs before and at least half of the miles I put on it were towing 5k lbs and it still works flawlessly.
