Boring blocks

I've read some where recently about using "pin gauges" (drills) between the bores of a block to indicate how far a block could be bored. Basically, with the freeze plugs out a drill is placed between the bores :
- if 1/8 is biggest the block may go to 4.23
- if 5/32 4.16
- if 3/16 4.11

Any experience are the numbers right

If you read it from Dave Shoe it's 99% likely to be right. He's poured over a LOT of old documentation on the ford engines and has a good knowledge of what has and hasn't worked. the thing you'd have to watch for would be core shift where the two cylidners might have been cast closer to each other leaving the far sides unusually thin.
