if you could choose to buy a 1996 7.3, 4x4 f-350 with a 5 speed or a 2001 f350 7.3, 4x4 with an auto which would you choose...Ive been driving a standard for a few years and wouldnt mind driving an automatic for a change.
I'm not completely up to date with these trucks, but some things ive heard are the earlier trucks had junk autos and if it wasnt a 5 speed manual trans you were eventually going to need to replace it. Is this true for the 2001 model too?
Also ive heard the 96 would have a solid front axle, but i dont know about the 2001, and it this true about the 96.
I like the looks of both of these trucks so that isnt a factor.
Last but not least, if the 2001 had 110,000 on it, standard interior package, standard cab and they wanted around 12-14k for it and the only thing noticeably wrong with it is the back bumper seems to have been malled up, is the price right or not right.
Thanks for reading, it seems like alot of questions.
I can't really comment on the tranny, when we had our 2000 7.3 F250 with the auto it was flawless, the superduty's all come with the solid front axle so you'll have no worries there and I do believe that the old body style did come with the solid front axle on the F350 but the 250 still had the TTB(not certain on that). To me that seems kind of pricey but I don't know the market down there
the early 01 had a mechanical diode in trans that was a week part, don't know when they changed it back
other than that a good truck
12k for a standard cab proby bout right
I bought my truck new in 9/00. I now have 115,000 miles on her. Looks and drives like new. Don't worry about the trans, I have not had a problem with my auto yet, in fact I just put a BTS-VB in it and running lots of power.
They are good trucks. Good luck finding your truck.
the OBS are running around 12k for a cheap one... all the way up to 16-18k for a crew cab dually stick (rare)
I got really lucky picking my dually up for around $3,000 in near perfect condition. I haven't seen one sell that cheap ever since, especially in this condition.
If you want an auto, then the obvious choice would be the 01. Shifting does get old after a while. Every single one of my vehicles is a manual, and driving an automatic is nice sometimes. However, you do have to pay the price of an auto.
