Could someone please answer a question on the Duraspark electronic ignition system for me. I have Duraspark system(looks that way from pictures). The part # for the dist. is D6TE which from older posts leads me to believe the previous owner changed it. This is on a 390(??) engine(cast# C6ME-A) in a '66 truck. I found a wire diagram on a site link from an archive thread and it looks like what I have. Some wires are cut all around and it's taken me a while to trace everything out.
But I'm doing a tuneup and want to upgrade older parts. I was planning on a new wires(8.5mm) and a pertronix or msd 40k coil.
My question is this: These new ignitions(i.e. MSD6a)...do they replace the module in the truck? Do I just connect the dist to this and get rid of the module or does it work w/ the old module? I'd like to get some good hot sparking going on under the hood. Or any other ignition advice would be most appreciated.
Thanks!
sorry not sure about the ign control unit ,BUT I have had 2 separate pertronix coils fail.Didn't last more than tree months each.Yes I use an inline resistor, and it works.tested it a million times. maybe a fluke.thought you might like to know.
yes you do use the stock duraspark box,you wire in the msd6a box in between the duraspark box and your dist.and it works great! your money will be well spent!!!!!!!! I have it in my truck.
