2004 shuts down...

I have a 2004 F350 with the 6.0 and about 70,000 miles. I've never had any problems with the truck and it's always had regular maintenance. The modifications are an Edge chip, 4" turbo-back exhaust and an Airaid intake.

About a month ago, I started up in the morning and within about 40 seconds the engine just shut off. It restarted right away and warmed up like normal. I got down the street and it shut off again in traffic. When it shuts down the idle seems to go to ~800 and sit there even when hitting the gas pedal. I coast to the side of the road and turn off the key and restart and it's fine again for a few blocks. I got it in to the dealer and they thought the EGR was at fault and "cleaned" it. Everything was fine after that for about a month... this morning, it shut down again.

Any thoughts on this? I'm going to go after the dealer to replace the EGR if that is the culprit - are there any other possibilities?

Two things I should mention - the Edge has been on since about 10,000 miles with absolutely no issues (lowest setting 95% of the time) and I remove it before any dealer service.

Thanks,
M

First, take the edge off and see if you still have problems. I think you are looking at a harness problem but you need to eliminate everything you can one step at a time. I've never seen an EGR shut down a vehicle. You can unplug it and it won't shut down the truck. The dealer is reaching---they obviously don't have a clue. It's NOT your EGR, but since you got it cleaned that's a good thing.

Thanks for the input - I did remove the Edge last time this was an issue and it died all the way to the dealer (shut down 4 times in 5 miles).

I'm removing the Edge now and will have it to the dealer again tomorrow...

My truck did the same until I removed the Edge. Ater removal, truck ran normal. I had it die will driving at 50 MPH. Had to pull to the side of the road. Had a hard time restating. Got home and removed Edge.

So I have an update of sorts... The truck has been at the dealer for more than a week. They claim they have not been able to recreate the stalling situation. They said the likely cause is my Airaid intake - and they have tech bulletins that say some after-market air intake systems can cause stalling, but throw no codes.

So I went to pick the truck up on Friday and it stalled dead three times in the parking lot. I left it there...

Anything else I can point them to? I don't believe it is the Airaid as it's been fine up until recently. If a MAF sensor is failing, does it throw a code?

Thanks for any help here.

I would try a new dealer. they are trying to blame it on the airaid when it definitely isn't. It's their cop-out. I would have laughed at the person that told me the airaid was causing the stalling then told them to tow it to a different dealer. that's too bad they are trying to do that to you. good luck man.

You've got two filters I think. I changed mine 1000 miles ago, but it got hard to start. So, I changed them again this morning. Seems I wasn't seating mine right and the filter in teh engine bay was crushing itself and starving the engine of fuel. Anyway, check your filters.

Clogged fuel filters? Fuel pump going out?

I have no experience with Edge products, but your condition kind of sounds like when my fuel pump was dying. I want to say I was around 80K in mileage.

Good luck.

My 2004 did the same thing a few months ago. It was the accelerator pedal assembly, fixed free under warranty, even though I have more than 36,000 miles on her. I believe there are 3 switches in it and if all 3 don't read the same the engine drops to idle. Scary feeling isn't it?
