I have a 2001 f250 7.3L and i am currently up in Rhode Island going to college. The winters around here are pretty cold and i wanted to check out the engine block heater. I plugged it in last night and noticed no problems. I went to plug it in tonight and noticed that the wires started sparking when i moved the wire coming from the truck. I was wondering if anyone else has had the same problems and how much would it cost for me to replace those wires. I'm considering taking it to the ford dealership and having them swap out the wires. The heater worked the night before very well, had it nice and warm when i woke up. however i don't want to start a fire overnight. thanks for all your help.
Hey there RI. I had the same problem with the actual molded plug and the cord being broken at the base where it attaches to the plug. It started to spark like yours so, I went to a local electrical supply store and got an outside/water proof type 20 amp plug. Works great! You could probably got to a Home Depot to get the similar plug or you could find the cable assembly on e-bay. By the way I from NE and was actually born in RI. Good luck!
i live currently in RI as well and am having the same problem the heater works but i think my plug and the wire are all messed up im going to replace the plug as well. What college are you going to
