Security / breakin prevention

Someone smashed in the front passenger window on my '06 F250CC this morning and grabbed the GPS off the dash in broad daylight on a main street.

I still hadn't put an alarm in the truck but, realistically, I don't think one would have done much for a smash & grab job like this.

Does anyone have suggestions for deterring or preventing such an incident? Anything at all?

Feel free to go as hog-wild as you'd like...

Only thing that would have prevented it, would have been to keep it out of sight. Face it, someone wanted it and took less than 5 seconds to smash your window, grab it and run. I live in a fairly nice upper middle income area but we still get the roving Meth-Heads that will bash your windows in to steal the 85 cents in your cup holder.

Nope, he left a cup containing about $20 in quarters in the cup holder below the GPS

I know keeping it out of sight is the best idea. And I tried when I was in "bad" areas, but I guess after a while I forgot to, and I never though that someone would smash the window in when parked in broad daylight in the first row of a parking lot on a main street on a university campus. I guess I learned the hard way.

But, honestly, I'm f*****g pissed. I looked around online and was able to find a film made by 3M that is 11mil thick. It gets professionally attached to the windows and, supposedly, will resist strikes from baseball bats, tire irons, etc. But, being an EMT, I get a bit worried about what it would do in an accident, especially if I had to be extricated from the vehicle.
