i have a 1977 Ford F250 hiboy 400M, and i have been having headaches with the motor. when i first bought it, it was fine, but now, after replaceing the plugs, wires, cap, and rotor, i am still haveing some sort of problem. after doing a compression test, the motor is anywhere from(80psi -> 135psi) 6:1 -> 9:1. my problem is that im only 16, and have limited amounts of time and funds. i need to know weither to rebuild or just get a different motor. i haev been told to buy a motor by some and by others to rebuild. i just want something that wont give me alot of problems. if u could, just let me know what u think is my best option. and if u happen to know where i could get either a rebuild kit or new motor for a resonable price, please let me know! any help is appriciated. if u need to contact me in any other way, email me at Scolesy8@aim.com
thanks

i have found another truck that supposeably has a rebuilt motor in it, but how can i tell if it is truley rebuilt, the odo. on the truck is origional and says 135,729. if u know how i can tell if this motor is rebuilt, then it would help me out alot. and if i was to get it anyways, would i be able to transfer my carb and intake, since it is also a 400 of the same year. any help is much appriciated.
thanks
Do a compression and vacuum ck. If it has 140+ consistently I doubt it's a 135k motor. Look for vacuum to be steady at 17+" at idle.
all would transfer right over...then you have one to play with as time and $ allows...if you feel like playing...a ton of fun and frustration...even thats fun though.
did you ck the compression with oil in the cyl on your bad motor? what if you got junk in the cyl when changing plugs and hurt an exhaust valve or seat? ???? who knows but I'd want to take a close look at that motor too.
