Obsessing over F100 stance
Obsessing over F100 stance
Hi all, new guy here. I have a '59 F100 slabside that I'm showing the love to. Currently working on the stance but don't really know where to start. I purchased the truck with a set of really ugly American Racing directional mags installed. 15x8 and the rear sidewalls are wider than the front. The truck had been previously lowered a bit with the addition of a Chevy front clip and by molesting the rear springs with a torch.
My wrenches have dropped the front way down and are ready to tune the height there. The rear is now down to just let the rear tires break the plane of the fender well.
I intend to replace the crappy wheels with either some steel smoothies or solids that I'll have powdercoated. Here's where I have some stress:
Should I continue with the 15x8s and the larger rear sidewall? Or should I go with something else? I admit my ignorance, that's why I'm asking for help from the experiences here.
Would anybody be kind enough to share their thoughts on the F100 stance? What is stock? What looks the best? Pictures would be appreciated.
Thanks for any help you can provide.

Finding the right stance is your choice. I'd find someone with Photoshop software and they can play around with different looks on your truck. As far as the rear springs go, they are shot if someone heated them up to lower the truck. They'll need to be replaced anyways. OOPs- Albuq beat me to it. LOL...
Nope, they were torched and bent. Good advice to lose them. My wrenches are working on that.
We tried to flip the axle but there's some clearance problems. Not sure what the shop has in mind now but it involves custom made springs (made by a spring specialty shop).
I may have issues if I need to change the rear sidewall size. I'm not sure if we can take it down any farther than it already is without bagging or notching.

I like a level stance! Way cool. Good call on the smoothies. It cuts way down on the brake dust and shortens cleaning time by 90%.

Thanks, your truck is smooth as butter.
I like the looks of a So-Cal 1958 F100 with Rat Fink green wheels that I've seen on the web and in magazines. It was the inspiration for me getting this truck. I've been trying to figure out what size wheels/tires he's using but it's all just speculation at this point.
I've put in a Boss 302 (not an original one but I have cobbled together a W block and C heads) with a dual-plane manifold, 4bbl, ceramic headers, Comp roller cam, alloy rockers, and other goodies. It's looking pretty good under the hood. Now I've got the stance and grip to worry about. And it has a ton of rust to contend with.

Hey Rabidatoms - set up a gallery so we can see what you are working with....we love PIC's.
As far as the stance goes, I like a 3" rake front to back and the front set as low as I can go without affecting ride or ability to get over the McDonalds speed bumps. That's my two cents!

OK, check it out. This is how it looked when I flew to Lexington, KY and drove it home to Dallas. I have to admit that she ran like a top even though I drove for over ten hours straight for two days in a row. Never missed a beat and started on the first turn every time! Although it had an exhaust leak that probably killed off what little brain cells I had left...
still mocking things up
