question?

ok my 1981 f-150 straight 6 has a miss while idling and smells real rich out the exhaust what could I check ?

If it has a oxygen sensor I would replace it $15. I would also get some Berrymans and spray that carb.

No O2 sensor in an 81.....hadn't even been thought of yet.
Seems to be common the EGR valve is clogged up/inoperative.
When was the last major tuneup?

I dont kow um just boght the truck it runs fine exells good through the gears just at idle it will idle smooth then all of a sudden it will miss like a quick hick up .

Tough one being erratic. I'm gonna guess the timing is off just a tad, whereby once in a while it hiccups.

Could very well be a weak spot in the primary circuit...from dizzy to plugs.
Does it do it more when it's damp out?
Wipe the plug wires and dizzy cap off....spark may be finding a better route to travel.
Find a totally dark location and observe the engine idling to see if you see an errant spark.
