destroyed a running board

I destroyed a running board this weekend while camping with my Boy Scout troop. Any advice on what to replace the carbon fiber ones with? Pictures in my gallery under Big Red 2.

Nah, its on his '06. Wouldn't have hurt the one on his 48! The new ones scuff a lot easier.

MTFlat is right, my 48 probably would have made it up there no problem. Those steel running boards can sure take a beating. My 48 has the originals still on, I'm am sure others do to.
I guess I'm looking for some nerf style bars. I posted this on the 04-08 forum also. A guy showed me some westin tubes on a newer F150. They look nice.
My son just joined the troop, so I will be doing this somewhere else again and would rather get some protection now. Maybe I need a lift kit, bigger tires. I'm sure the better half would fall for that...LOL

You did a good job on it. Is it factory or after market. Probably have to buy another one. Or fiberglass it back.

Rusty,
It's a factory. Carbon fiber the sales guy said, like I should believe that.

Exactly. Carbon fiber is like $100 a pound, steel is $5. Is it really c.f.?? What a waste.

My 2005 F-150 came with the chrome tube style running boards. So far they seem to be able to take quite a beating.
Is that wheel a 16" or a 17"? I have a spare aluminum wheel from a 2000 F-150 but its a 16"....

My 01 explorer (4 door) has the sport package. It came with steel tubes similar to the westins that say ford on the rubber step.

Now...as far as tough...I doubt it.

The off-road guys make "sliders" for that area. They are usually 2X4 tubes that go back and bolt to the frame. From the outside they looks like the step bars, but are a lot tougher.

Just a suggestion.

Bobby,
It's a 17" wheel. I think I will be going with some kind of stainless tube style. It looks like they can as you say take a beating...

Bummer on the wheel. I would have made you a killer deal

If you are going to be doing serious off roading you should probably do like Brian suggested. My 2005 is a 2wd but I have managed to abuse it slightly by taking it places it was never intended to go. I've drug them on the ground a time or two and haven't hurt them yet. Of coure, it has never been hard enough of a hit to bend a wheel either

No way to repair? I have the same problem with the running board on my 05 F350.

destroyed a running board

Brian,
Where could I find something on this on the net? I'm not a off roader, I bought this thing for winter driving here in Central N.Y. and if I have to go off road occasionally so be it. It cost too much $$$$ for me to destroy the truck by offroading it, in my humble opinion.
Thanks...
Jeff

Fomoko1,
As far as repairing it, I would have to go back and get all the pieces. My father in law could probably piece it together, he's a great body man. I'm going to have him take a look before I do anything. The rock acted like a can opener and just peeled it back.

I guess at a $100 lb for Carbon fiber the repair would be very expensive and more problems could arise. I`m sure it wouldn`t be as easy or cheap as fiber glass repair......
