My sub was shot so I got a new RF DVC sub to replace it. Sounded good but the factory amp would shut down. So I put a nice Orion amp in and found out that the speaker level input for the factory amp was too low for a speaker to RCA convertor. So I tie into the RR speaker. Now it works but output is still way low of what the amp can do. I used it to run a sub in my jeep, worked awesome. I'm only planning on keeping it for a year or two so I want to go back to stock and forget about it.
Yes I optimized all settings on convertor and amp.
Anyone have a factory sub that they want to sell. Or have a better idea?
What was the impedance of the coils on your RF sub? I'm guessing the problem there was that your factory amp could not deal with the ohm load of your speaker. You might be able to wire your speaker differently and get it to work with your factory amp. If your voice coils are wired to run at two ohms I'd almost guarantee that this is your problem. Check this website http://www.crutchfield.com/ISEO-rgbt...rs_wiring.html to see your wiring options. Good luck.
I do have a dvc 4ohm sub. According to what I've found here the impedence from the amp can be as low as 1.5 and as high as 4. I parallelled it to give it 2 ohm load. that was the problem. Now with an aftermarket amp in place it's still not acceptable. Are you saying that a single 4ohm is the way to go? Doesn't make sense if the amp presents a <4ohm load.
the Mach amp (mine) won't handle 2 ohms. I may run it at 8ohms and see. I'm not buying any more adapters to run an aftermarket amp, I've spent enough time and effort on this already. If the factory amp runs the sub at 8ohms fine. I'm more interested in having it work with the factory amp. This vehicle doesn't have to "rock" as it's the family truckster. My Jeep, no OEM issues and that's the one I want to really sound good. Thsi is my first experience with the "better" audio from Ford, I guess we won't be doing fancy stuff with the next one either. I'll run the OEM amp at 8ohms and let you guys know how it works.
Moderator, it would be nice if there was a sticky for the audio systems with some of the pertinent information. YOu can spend a long time searching for the intel you need here.
