Has anyone out there bought or used one of these set ups from ck-sr on ebay? Item # is 280158414072 $59.95 + $9.00 s&h. It's supposed to be a different style relay than Ford's and comes with wiring, and a switch for the dash so you can turn your glow plugs on only when you need them, not every time you turn the key. Guy says he's had some of his relays in trucks for 5 years without a failure. He also seems to know his stuff about the stock relay I seem to be buying about every 6 months. Are there certain procedures that need to be followed to keep these things from burning out ? When I know my truck is warm, I usually don't wait for the wait to start light to go out before I fire 'er up. Could this be contributing to my premature failure problem? Or could it be that these relays with their copper rings are just junk like this fella says. I know it would be pretty easy to wire my own switch into a regular relay, but this SUPER relay has got me wondering if I should try one of these set-ups out. My relay only works intermittently right now, and it's getting to be about 40 degrees here at night in Idaho, so I need to get something done. Seems like a small price to pay if it lasts as long as advertised. Opinions? Comments? As always, your input is VERY much appreciated.
I doubt you will get a "super relay" for that price. It looks the same as the replacements (MR99 from autozone, $20). You can add the switch yourself for a few $$ like you said. It will increase the life expectancy a bit. The best thing to do is get a heavy duty GPR. I'll try to find the link for it. It's expensive but worth it for us guys in the colder climates, or just keep changing the cheap ones every couple years.
Yep sounds like a get rich slow line to me. I doubt the relay is anything more stock or less relay with wiring. The wiring can be done to your current relay for less than $10 and thats if you have to buy a wire stripper! If your going to spend the money on a realy buy the stancor relay and let your PCM do the thinking with on times.
