Okay...I haven't had that much to drink tonight...YET...
But where in the heck did the search feature for the forum go?
It is usually under my 'quick links' pull-down...
for the life of me I canNOT find it!
I want to find the thread on shock install so I can post how long it took me today...any thoughts on WTF happened to the search?...am I just getting old and forgetful???
Joe, I can't find it now, but there was an announcement on why it was temporarily shut off. And in checking the site announcements forum, I see nothing there.
Not sure where the thread went that I read, but they had some kind of glitch with it they were trying to work out or something like that.
BTW...Shocks went on without any major issues...took about 1.5 hours...well maybe a little longer...
Seems my RoadMasters addition of about 1" to the rear and the 'stiffer' suspension...with the Bilsteins tied from expansion...I couldn't easily COMPRESS my rear springs!...
So here I am ... honey..."can you hop in the back of the Ex"...luckily she isn't big enough to compress the springs...so we call my neighbor and his football center son...those two get in the back...all 425 combined pounds...STILL not enough...so my wife, those two, his daughter, my daughter, 80 pounds of salt...for about 800 #'s in the rear of the Ex to get about 7/8" compression...so I holler to them to start 'bouncing'...as I slip the lower bolts in...
Afterwards...I figured I could have loosened the top bolts the 1/8" but it was more fun to have all of them BOUNCE in the tight confines of the rear cargo area of the Ex...
Thanks again for your help on the shocks...there's always a story with me it seems!
so I holler to them to start 'bouncing'...as I slip the lower bolts in...
I'm confused Joe...why would you need someone to help lower the truck so that you can put the shocks on? That would mean the shocks are too short. Remember they have to extend as well as compress with the spring. That shock should have extended well past the mounting point.
When Bilstein ships them...they BAND them in a COMPRESSED state. If you cut the band...I agree they extend...I was afraid to cut the band UNTIL I had them bolted in...
After did get them bolted in and cut the band...they sprang apart with a pretty good force...after that...I was glad I didn't cut the band BEFORE...but perhaps after the force was released...I could have easily have compressed it...but I wasn't taking the chance...
So the length that Bilstein captured the length was too short...when released...they work very nicely...
Does that help or confuse?...let me know...i've been in a customer meeting ALL day and my eyes are batty...time to go home and get some dinner...i'll check this when I get home...
